A need for admiration. Know ing that someone receives great joy and pleasure from being in our presence helps us feel important, thus, fulfilling this need 2. A need for respect When someone esteems us highly for exactly who we are. our need for respect is satisfied J. A need for affection. The demonstration of kindness, tenderness, and compassion meets our need for affection H e should love one another. I Corinthians 13: J- 7: "Chanty suffereth long, and is kind, chanty envicth not. chanty vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own. is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil. Rejoiccth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth. Beareth all things, belicveih all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things." Bitot does the Bible tell us about God? I John A:16: "And w e have known and believ ed the love that God that to us God is love and he that dwclleth in love dwclleth in God. and God in him " The Bible says that we are created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27: "So God created man in his own image, in the linage of God created he him. male and female created he them " H'oman was crated from a part of man. Genesis 2:23: "And Adam said. This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man " God set a good example for us to follow. He loved us so much He gave His Son for us. John 3:16: Tor God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever bclievelh in him should not perish, but have everlasting life " He even loved us when we disappointed Him. Romans S:8: "But God commendelh his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners. Christ died for us" As we look at Christ's life, we see that He went about doing good, healing all that were made sick and destitute by Satan There were entire villages healed by Christ In these villages there was not one cry of pain . . Love, joy, peace: patience, kindness and goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self- control were shown in every acts of His life People from all walks of life were drawn to Him. His life demonstrated true and genuine love. His life demonstrated respect for each human being He did not live to please Himself, but He had thoughtful care for others 1 would encourage you to read each of the Gospels However, let me sum up using the Apostle John's own words. John 21:25: "And there are also many other things w hich Jesus did. the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be . WTitten. Amen " Why should ?* love one another? I John A: 19: "We love him, because he first loved us " Therefore, w e come back to our first question What do people secretly look for in a sweetheart or spouse? The answer, my friend, is that we are secretlylooking for God in our sweetheart or in our spouse However, do not forget that they, too, are looking for God in our lives "FLA - Disney Area Mini Vacation Sale" Get 4 Days & 3 Nights Hotel Accommodations For Only Call Now For your Summer & Fall Reservations! 1 800 749-4045 ext 520 www.wholesale-travel.com ; ^ WwmmM } For free, information on how you may qualify I through Medicare or private insurance to receive I | your supplies for any or all of these health | I conditions at U lTLE OR NO COST to you, call Easy Access Medical Supply, Inc. 1-800-679-1623 t ^ ^ Certain restrictions may apply- No HMO's please. NC (910) 671-5000 M www.srmc.org Reflections by Alta Ny? Oxandln* 42 YEARS That's what we would have been celebrating, if my husband, Leon, had stayed here with us for a second 21 years of married life. Actually, we didn't make it quite to 21 years. He and the others died on July 8, and our anniversary was august 25. WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS i have now been a WIDOW longer than I was a WIFE. Glad I finally learned to accept the word "widow" and the fact that I was one. I've certainly had lots of company with other women who have also become widows. And a lesser number of men who became widowers after their wives died. Women still tend to live longer than men. But many wives die first from such causes as cancer or an accident, or in some cases heart disease. Although in rare cases the two partners die together, most married couples can expect one partner w ill leave before the other one does. I believe it would help it they would calmly discuss this likelihood long before that time comes. LIFE AND DEATH My mother taught us that death is a part of life. (That's one reason I thought I should be "strong" when I began realizing that the three family members who had left a half day earlier to sell vegetables had not made it back alive. And why this feeling was reinforced during the two months she stayed with us after the funeral.) Now I know it would have been better for my daughter and me if, instead of being so concerned about being brave, I had allowed both of us to cry and openly express grief in other ways. As it was, I seemed to be saying: "We don't have to moum. J ust go on as if nothing had happened." It was Dr. Lane's class on death and dying that convinced me that we all have to finish going through the various stages of grief, which include: denial, (bargaining in some cases), anger, pain, confesio and depression. Otherwise we will not reach the degree of acceptance that makes it possible to go on living a worthwhile life without those lived ones who are no longer with us. It would be easier if we could simply sit down and talk about death BEFORE it takes a family member. And I would certainly encourage every adult to make out a will, at least a simple one, which can be revised from time to ' time and to buy life insurance. I don't know WHAT we would have done if it had not been for Leon's life insurance, when there were three to be buried at one time. How thankful we have been, ever since, for that insurance! We have been SO fortunate in ways like this. So many other families have experienced hardship because they never had any life insurance, or because the insurance was dropped at some point to save money. Recently 1 have been going through the experience of grief and change along with the children of Jeanette Marie Dial, who would have turned 42 last week. Besides the shock that ALL of us experienced, and the feet that thev continue to miss having their mother as an important part of their lives, they (like so t many other families are having to cope with not having enough income to go F; around. Please keep them in your prayers. And, of course, there are always MANY other families to pray for. One person who has been through more than her share of tragedy is "Miss Lucy" Thomas, who (like me) has lost two sons. May God's love be very real to . EVERY family that has been made smaller through death ! CHRIST AND OUR REGRETS As I was listening to Mike Kellogg on the Good News Network and working on this column, I heard him say, "The only people who fear death are those who have regrets." Then he added the promise that Christ can take away all our regrets. HOW TRUE! And HOW IMPORTANT to prepare now for the new life that we can experience after death closes the door on this life! 180-year tradition of quality.
