. The theme of the conferance
was “A Campaign For Balanced
Prcsperity in the South, IMO-
50.” In this effort there are, as
set forth by the leadera of the
movement, ten methods for
achieving the objective "Balanc
ed Pf'csperity.” The organiza
tion committee for “Balanc.ed
Prosparity in the South, 1940-
60” set forth ten roads to what
the governors, public agencies
and cooperating citizens of the
South are seeking. They are;
1 Balance crops with live
stock, consistent with sound land
use.
2 Balanced money crops with
(inclading forestry) with food,
feed, And fertility crops.
crops.
S Balanced production pro-
greaa with marketing and trans-
po^:^tion ojiiwrtunities, without
trade barriera.
4 Balanced farm with factor-

worker prosperitp. i
8 Incfeasing income, with in
creasing home ownership.

Among the four significant
advantages the committee is
striving for is:
“Hie plan reaches down o
Iittl0_ towns, little comniunities,
- little incn and women who^ao
often feel that government
knows and cares ^little about
lAein. Jt ia our feeling (1) that
no man enough for governinent
10 tax is too little for govern
ment to, encourage and 2 that
f only by honoring and tncourag-
ing improved methods not only
by eftlea, town, counti^, etc.,
but^ by individual farmers, farm
women, industrial workers, etc.,
can the. South achieve the Balan
ced Prosperity, 1940^50 f r
which we; strive.”
