R. L. McDOUGALD, Secretary - Treasurer. Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 21st day of Ifcmuary, 1941. ELNA B. PEMBERTON, Notary Public. (My Commission Expires July 10, 1941.) ' ^ * Year. ”I personally, wish eome- would put their thinking ability to work and create a pew greeting. Lets see what the younger set did during the holidays of 1940: Byrdie Bruner, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Josej>h Bruner, Jr. of P!ainfield, N. J. visited her grandparents of Concord, N. C., Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bruner, Sr. Mildred English, a freShmi»n, of Worcester, Mass. a freshman visited Annie Lewis of Ahoskie, N. C. while the Kelly sister re turned to Cartihage, N. C. and after they spent several days in Pinehurst visiting friends. Thomaa Pettyeway of Waterbury, Conn ! journeyed to Goldsboro to see the Oakley twin (he ^v^ho had occupi ed Frances’ time during 1940.) It was funny Charles Belfield has to travel to New York '^o see Booths when Javotte Sutton was here in Durham waiting for his I return. He is from Roanoke Ra- - pids. Shirley Mussenden visited j friends in Philadelphia and her I family in New York city, and Irene Martin of High Point, I went nortih to see friends stopping in several places before returning home. We had several good students who thought enough of their school to encourage their home town friends to return the second quarter with them, Corinne Hog- gard, Powellville and Mary Hall I of Plainfield, N. J. in tihe of .Annie Lewis and Blanche Gamer, j On last Tuesday morning, the members of the Commereial de- |partment witnessed a tj-ping de monstration by Cortez Peters, the world’s fatest opearator on a por table typewriter, who won the In ternational Typewriting Contest in 1937. Mr. Peters gave pre sentation of tap dancing on the j typewriter which he dedicated to Bill Robinson over the “We the People Hour” program last year. Everyone gets a kick out of seeing the fraternity men go on ipro. The Kappa Alpha Psi had four, Booker Spaulding, Dennie Simons, Edward Strayhorne, and Arthur Risdon. They have a grand j performance during the half of ; the basket ball game, Tuesday night for the audience. We really enjoyed it. Dr. Howard J. Ohidley, of Winchester, Mass addressed the student body, Thursday morning on the topic. The Man and the Derby Hat, the evening service, Robinson Crusoe text, Friday ; morning. The Boy Call Remnant, and Friday night was especially dedicated to women, topic: “Who Knoiws But?” I>r. Chidley gave some very sounding advice to the group as a whole which could be used in later life. Also he pointed out the imj>ortanee the little nian (in the derby hat) who plays in society whidh he meant that a j>erso:i did *not have to have an executive Job to be important, but he was the man who had the mechnictl up keep of the job. For example, the man at the executive desk or I head of a train company cannot | run the train, but the little in | j le derby hat who does the job at te engine and wlio builds road in order that the train may an.n- port j)assengers. On Sunday afternoon at Ves per Service, Rev. A. Clayton Powell, pastor of Abyssinian Bap tist Church of New York city spoke to the students on the topic: “The Need of Prophetic jMen and Women.” and on Monday ,he discussed the iopic of “The ^ OUARANTEEIHC THE SECURITY OF THOUSANDS OF HORTH CAR0UKA HOMES . * • • V* •, •■•■•r/v S5th Annual Statement December/ 31/1940 Home Security Life insurance Company Durham/ North Carolina RESOURCES Gash in Bank and Office Certificates of Deposit..
