The ball which is one of the top social events of Durham society is sponsored each year by Beta Pi Sigma Chapter of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. Theodore R. Hicks, whose wife, Sytvia, “and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Hicks, live in Roxboro, N. C., recently was promoted to corporal in Ger many, where he is on omfcu- lance driver in the 1st Infantry Division’s Medical Battalion. The 20-year-old soldier entered the Army in June 1953 and ar rived overseas the following Deqember. Mrs. M. N. Leake Hostess To Sorors The members of the Psi Tau Mu Chapter of the Alpha Chi Pi Omega Sorority were roy ally entertained on Monday af ternoon by Soror' May Nolia Leake, at her home on Massey Avenue. It was the Sorority’s Annual Christmas party; and the Christmas spirit prevailed throughout the afternoon. Ca rols were sung; games played, and gifts exchanged. The main topic of the day was Piatt And Dayis 111 Corcormn St. Bldg. “The Coming trip to Florida on December 26. Every one is look ing forward to this with great enthusiasm. The Sorority has chartered a 41-passenger bus, and approximately 30 will be making the trip. This trip Is open for members and friends. The Sorority Is the brain child of Dr. Mary McLeod Be- thune, founder of Bethune- Coolunan College, and is a na tional organization. Each Chap ter makes a contribution yearly to the foundation at the Nation al Convention. The Sorority was the first to contribute to the Bethune Foundation and the amount they gave was $3,000. To date, the 6rganization has given a total of $3,000 to the Founda tion. The Dobbs Training School in Kinston is also a supporter and, as a state project, makes an annual contribution to the foun dation. A special invitation has been extended from Dr. Bethune to visit her beautiful Vista-Volusia Beach. She will be present to personally welcome the guest to the college campus, where ac commodations have been mad6 for spending some time by the College President, Dr.. Richard V. Moore. From this point on to Miami, the trip will afford much in the way of sightseeing. Then the group departed for Raleigh and a meeting with the Delta Chi Et Chapter. The members there were just as excited, as most of them will be making the trip.
