The group, of whicli Mrs. Pauline Caffey is director, left by bus Friday morning, April 22. They return- •d at 6:00 P.M. Blrs. Mary H. Smith and Mrs. Amanda Long of Whitted School took their classes on a trip to Raleigh, April 21. They visited the Hall of History, the Museum of Natural History, the House Chamber, and the School for the Blind and Deaf. Lunches were eaten at Carolina Grill. Girl Scouts of Trdbp 23 of Mount Vernon Church gave a carnival'Friday night, April 22, at 8 o’clock in the chiirch Base ment. Entertainment consisted of fishing pond. Bingo, conces sion stand and trinket table and others. The 'Y-Teens gave a party at tbe~ Harriet Tubman BrjKicb on Umstead Street. It was 8 to 10 P.M. There was a large crowd. Refreshments were punch and cookies. They danced. Kenneth Massey from Phila delphia came to visit his cou- ains, Oscar, Mabel, Patricia and Chester Williams who live on Bernice Strtet. He came on the 23rd of April and stayed over the weekend. Burton Elementary School’s grammar grades will present an operetta in two acts, “Taffy Ann” by Beatrice Casey and Harol^ Wansborough, Friday, April 29, 1955, at 8:00 P.M. All parents and patrons of Bur ton School are urged to come out for an evening of fun and enjoyment. Other guests present were Doris Schooler, Betty Jo Goodloe, Mary Allen, Patricia Poole, Bettie' Dunn, Beverly McNeil and Jackie Thornton. Clayton Wade had his first flight when he accompanied his mother, Mrs. Alma Ruth Wade, to Philadelphia to attend the Delta Regional there. Claytor had a fine trip. Naomi, Emma Jean, Eugene, Louie and Michael Lowery of McDougald Terace were visited by their sister, Almeta Lowery from New York. She spent the weekend of April 21 with them. Y. • KiNOCO WWSKEY, 86 PfiOOF. 72?S GRAIN NEUTRAL SPIRITS Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Clara Leonard Of Dunstan Street Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Leonard, who died at Lin coln ^ospital Tuesday, April 19, were held at the Johnson Ray Funeral ^ome the follow ing Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The officiating minister was the Rev. Myles Mark Fisher, minister of the White Rock Baptist Chureh. He was assist ed by the Rev. George Thar- rington, pastor of the Kyles Temple AME Church, and the Rev. Eli Thompson. Mrs. Leonard was the daugh ter of the late Spencer and ,^ce Mills. She was bom in Ashe ville on January 31, 1884. On June 15, "IBOi she was married to Robert Leonard who died in October of 1949. To this uj^on three children were bom, one son and two daughters. Mrs. Leonard had been in de clining health for several months but remained active until about six months ago when her condition became worse. Christmas found her in critical condition, but she ral lied and seemed on the way to partial recovery of health. How ever, she suffered a relapse and gradually grew weaker. . For several years, Mrs. Leon ard and her husband lived in Lexington, where their child ren were born. She becsme a member of the Methodist Church there in 1901. In 1919, she with her family, moved to Durham. Sometime later, she became a member of the Kyles Temple Methodist Church In which she held her membership until her death. Surviving are one son, Char les Leonard, two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Young, a teacher at the Merrick-Moore High School, and Mrs. Leona L. Smith, a teacher in the same school, and. a son-in-law. Rev. H. Albert Smith, all of Durham. Interment was in the Beech- wood Cemetery. Panel Talk At NAACP Meet ’The NAACP local body met at the Morehead Avenue Bap tist Church on Morehead Ave nue, Sunday, April 24, at 4 p.m-., of which the Rev. C. E. McLes- ter is the minister. Devotiona were in charge of the iwslfcr and the music was furnished by the Mount Gilead Male Chorus. A report on the membership cam paign was made by Attorney F. B. McKissick. The trophy pre sentation to those, responsible for the addition of most members was made by W. A. Clement The big feature of the meet ing was a panel discussion of the topic, "Hospitals .and Asylums” The discussants were Attorneys M. E. Johnson and C. O.
