Edmonds, pro fessor of history at the North Carolina College at Durham, who Is currently studying at Heidelberg University in Ger many, delivered an important address to the German Pro fessional and Business Wo men’s Club In Bonn, Germany, on Tuesday, June 21. Dr. Edmonds, author of The Negro and Fusion Politics In North Carolina, 1894-1900, and of a forthcoming history of th* Delta Sigma Theta Sorori ty, spolce also at the Bonn Press Club on “The American University Women with Special Emphasis Upon The American Negro University Women.” Dr. Edmonds delivered the address In German. The speech was sponsored jointly by the German Pro fessional and BusinMs Wo men’s Club and the United States of Cultural Affairs in West Germany. A native of LawrenceviUe, Va., who attended and formerly taught at the St. Paul’s Poly technic Institutein Lawrence- vUle, Dt: Edmonds received the B.A. degree at Morgan State College and the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State Uni versity. Since joining the faculty at North Carolina College in 1841, Dr. Edmonds has been in fre quent demand as lecturer and visiting professor at numerous schools and colleges. The Prince Hall Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star met at the Masonic Temple on Sixth Avenue. Both meetings were well attended. Grand Master John Wesley Dobbs stated that it was the largest and best at tended Masonic Grand Lodge meeting ever held in the State of Georgia. The ;:«ports of the Prince Hall Masons showed the Grand Lodge assets to be over |400, 000.00. All accounts were audi ted by J. B. Blayton, Certified Public Accountant. The Grand Chapter assets were over $150, 000.00. John Wesley Dobbs along with his iull staff of officers were unanimously re-elected to serve another year. The Eas tern Stars re-elected Geo. W. Smith, Brunswick, Ga., Grand Matron- Mrs. Carrie T. Stan ton, Grand Secretary, volun tarily retired because of failing health. Her place was filled with the election of Miss Mat tie Griffin, Atlanta, Ga. Rev. Wm. Holmes Borders of Atlan ta, was the principal speaker at the opening public meeting Tuesday night, June 14 at St. James A.M.E. Church. Clair, Jr. of Saint Louis was among ten distinguished American leaders upon whom Boston University conferred academic honors at its recent commencement. Bishops Bishop Clair received the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity. Born in Harpers Ferry, Weat Va. in 1890, Bishop Clair is the only son of a Methodist bishop also to t>e elected to the officc. His late father. Bishop Matthew W. Clair, Sr., was elected to the episcopacy in 1920; his son in 1952 Bishop Clair was educated at Howard and Boston Univer sities and the Iliff School of Theology. He has served pas torates in - Bedford, Virginia; Martinsburg, W Va; Roanoke, Va, Denver, Colorado. Indian apolis, and Chicago. For a de cade he was professor of prac tical theology at Gammon Theological Seminary, Atlanta. After his election to the bishopric in 1952, in Philadel phia, he was assigned to the Saint Louis Area of the Central Jurisdiction. He is president of the Board of Trustees of Phil ander Smith College, Little Rock, Ark.
