RETURNED HOME Mrs. J. H. Thomas and daugh ter Carolyn of East Orange, New Jersey have returned home af ter spending several weeks in Durham to be at the bed side of her father, A. B. Burch of Merrick Street. Mrs. Thomas Is the wife of Rev. J. H. Thomas, former pas tor of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. During her stay here she was dinner guest of Mrs. Thomas Bailey, Sr., of Llnwood Avenue, Rev. and Mrs. James A. Brown of Whitted Street, and lunched with Mrs. William Milum of Linwood Avenue. Wade assisted by her sister Mrs. Margaret H. Barnett, at the Wade home on Fayetteville Road. The courtesy held Saturday evening was to compliment Miss Bernice Sawyer of Dur ham and Ashoskie, bride-elect of William A. Marsh, Jr. The couple will wed August 14 on the lawn of her home in Ahos- kie. North Carolina. Bridal games were played and prizes awarded to Mrs. Christine Alston, mother of the prospective bridegroom, ..Mrs. Dorothy Enty, and Mrs. Emily DeCosta of Charleston, S. C. The honoree was presented a corsage of white carnations up on her arrival. The hostess al so presented miniature bibles to each guest. ^ The refreshment table was covered with a white handmade crocheted cloth and centered with white flowers and white candles in onyx candelabra with wedding bells shspended from the ceiling over the table. Dalton motored to Stovall, North Caro lina the 5th Sunday in July, where they had the pleasure of being among the many relatives and guests of the Daniels fam ily reunion. Mrs. Dalton Is the niece of Mr. Archie Daniels at whose home the reunion was giVen. Among the 75 or more rela tives present were: Miss Bessie Daniels, Elmond Daniels, James A. Daniels, Samuels and Wil liams Daniels, all of New York City. From New Jersey came Mrs. Ida Bell Veal and son, Willie Veal. Also attending were Ernest Daniels from JPhila- delphia, Pennsylvania and Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Royster of Clarksville, Virginia, plus many Pretty Shirley Temple James, rising junior editor elect of the Campus ECHO, student news paper at North Carolina Col lege, spent the past summer as “opprentice editor^ on the staff of Noe's Summer ECHO. Fifty Children Take Part In Birthday Party On Sunday, August 7, about fifty childfen gathered on the lawn of Rosalyp Dianne McCol lum at her home, 504 Gray Street, to help c'elbrate her fif th birthday. There were games, music, and muq^ gaiety to add to the occasion. Rosalyn’s father sponsored a “Talent Program" for the bids. Each contestant had a chance to sing or recite over the micro phone" after which prizes were given to the performer. Little Miss Brenda Bennett and Bernadette Strudwick won first and second prizes, re spectively. Little Miss Gurina won the prize for pinning the tail on the donkey. Ice cream, cookies, birthday cake, mints, peanuts were serv ed as refreshments and favors consi^ng of horns, hats, Ha waiian leis weer vneigtc-—- waiian were given to the guests. After a full afternoon af acti vity, the guests left, each one having declared he had a won derful time. Rosalyn received many gifts and expresses her thanks to each one that be^wd to make her birthday party an ^]oyable one Icmg to be remembered. The Fri( Workers Club On Safturday evening, July 30, Mesdames Colcelia Evans, Hester Bagley and Mattie Chav is were co-hosteses to the Friendly Workers Club at the home of Mrs. Evans on Ferrell ■ Street. The meeting opened with de votions which was followed by a brief business session. A re port as made showing that $41.75 had ben given to the sick during the past few weks. Mrs. Ella Andrews, president was the presiding officer. A social period followed dur ing which a delctable repast was served.
