An Accident Willie (Bill) Leathers fell last Saturday and broke his shoulder. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital where he re ceived treatment and was re leased. He is now resting at his home, 318 Umstead Street. Vacationing in Durham Mrs. Annie King and daugh ters Mabel, Elouise and Delo- ris of Washington, D. C., are visiting relatives and friends in .Durham. They are house guests of the children’s grand parents, the Rev. and Mrs. J. T. King of Umstead Street. Charlie Speights of Speights Auto Service, has been vaca tioning in Washington, D. C. and New York City. Speight attended some big league games ' and visited friends while away. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Harris had as their house guest for a few days Miss Bertha Aikens from Chester, Pennsylvania. Many courtesies were shown Miss Aikens while in the city Returns from Western Tour Mr. and Mrs. P. H. McNeill and Miss Sudie Holloway have just returned from more than seven thousand miles tour. While on this tour the places visited were; The stockyards in Chicago, Illinois; the grand canyon of Arizona; Los Ange les, San Diego and San Fran cisco, Calif.; Tia Juana, Mexi co and many of the spots of in terest. They also visited Salt Lake City, Utah, Colorado Springs and the many interes ting places there. From the western hills, they, toured through Niagara Falls, N. Y. and Canada. The tour was educational and most interes ting. Mrs. Gladys A. Dawkins has returned from New York City after completing her work for the Master Degree in Ele mentary Education at New York University. Saint Joseph Nursery School ToOpen Monday St. Joseph Nursery School will open Monday, August 29, for registration of Nursery School and first grade pupils for the fall term. The hours for registration are from 10 to 12 noon, Monday through Friday. All parents who are interest ed in registering their chUdren are requeste'd to bring their chUdren’s immuization cards, if possible, at that time. The fall term will begin Tues day, September 6. The hours of operation are from 7:30 A. M. to 5:00 P. M. Children age three, pur, and five years are eligible for Nursery School. ChUdren, from ag^ five years and six months In Septembtf, to six years, are considered for first grade. Mrs. E. Herrod Azalea Garden Club Hostess Mrs. filsie llerrod was hos tess to the Azalea Garden Club on Monday night. The mem bers gathered on her beautiful flower-bedecked lawn. The garden gate* was open ed by Mrs. Lena Richardson with the club song and prayer. She then quizzed the members on the recent trip to Luray. Caverns. The quiz was enjoy able and Informative. Aher a brief business* ses sion, Mrs. McNeill and Mrs Lucas showed beautiful slides of cave formations and of lo cal gardens. A social hour was then held during which time Mrs. Herrod .served a delici ous dinner. Guests enjoying Mrs. Her- rod’s hospitality were Mes- dames L. W. Harris, Wife Back In Durham After Vacation Mr. and Mrs. John H. Har ris of 304 East Umstead St. have returned to the city af ter vacationing in Washington, D. C,, Chester, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, New York City, Brooklyn and Mt. Vernon, N. Y. They reported a very plea sant stay. While in Washington they saw Cleveland and the Washington Senators play ball and enjoyed the boat ride with the Kappa Alpha Psi Frater nity, which is their annual event. In New York city, they saw the game between the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox at the Yankee Stadium and a game between the Dodgers and Giants at Ebbetts Field in Brooklyn. Marsh Back In Durham After Week-End Motor Trip Mrs. Macel McLain and daughter, Mrs. Margaret H. Turner and children, Alma, Carolyn, Margaret Ann and Frederick Earl Turner, Joseph Washington, and Larry Lovett, grandchildren of Mrs. McLain motored to Washington, D. C., the first weekend of tWs month. While they were there they were the guests of rela tives, Mrs. Maud Douglass and daughter, Mrs. Warlene D. Hatch on 8th Street, S. E. The pouglasses are former residents of Sanford, North Carolina. Wade of Durham performed the double ring ceremony at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, assisted by the Reverend Addison Williams of Ahoskie. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sawyer of Ahoskie, Mr. Marsh is the son of Mrs. Lathrop W. AJston of Durliam, and Wm. A. tMarsh of Philadelphia. John Eley, Organist and Hiss Althea Eley, vocalist presented a program of pre-njuptial selec.t tions in a setting of ferns and' seven-branched vine covered candelabra with cat^te^i^ tap; ers and floor )>a8kets of whit^ gladioli 'j;, Ernest Sawyer, broths of the bride, gave his sister in mar riage. For the ceremony the bride chose a waltz-length. gown of Chantilly lace and Qjdon tulle, fashioned with a basque fitted bodice and fitted lace, jacket with long sleeves ending in points over the wrist. The full lace skirt was scalloped down the Iront ending aroimd the bottom in nlyon tulle. Her shoulder length veil of bridal illusion was attached to a Juliet cap of lace and seed pearls, and she carried a white prayer, book topped with pi^le orchids, from wliich hung satin ribbon stream ers enterlaced with baby’s breath. Her only ornament was a single strand of pearls, a gift from the groom. Miss Lyynette Sawyer, sister of the bride, attended as maid of honor. Her ballerina-length dress of pink nylon tulle was designed with a fitted bodice and full skirt. She carried a bou quet of chrysanthemums with pink satin streamers. Bride- maids were Miss Janice Jones of Ahoskip and Miss Cleopatra Broadnax of Durham and Sea board, North Carolina, who wore dresses fashioned as the Ma)d of Honor. Oliver Garrett of Durham was best man for the groom. Groomsmen and ushers were Bennett L. Caffey, brother-in- law of the groom, and Claiborne Tapp, Jr., and Alfred E^er all of Durham. Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s par ents. Mrs. Sawyer wore for her daughter’s wedding a street length dress of white laceover pink taffeta with mauve accesor- ies. Both mothers wore corsages of rose colored roses. The couple will reside in Dur ham, where Mr. Marsh is prac- ticsing law. ~ Mrs. Marsh is a graduate of North Carolina Ck>llege where she received a B. S. Degree in Coqimerce and is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. >Mr. Marsh is a graduate of Carolina College, and of the. School of Law, and a mem ber of Omega Psi Phi Frater nity.
