Returns From Detroit Miss Doris Martin of 600 Price Street has returned home from Detroit, Michigan where she spent the summer with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hall. Returned Home Mrs. Estelle Buchanan of 604 Colfax Street has return ed home after visiting rela tives. She vistied her daugh ters, Mrs. Sarah Harley and family in Washington,' D. C., and Mrs. Margaret Baucom and Mr. Baucom. In New York she was the house guest of her niece, Mrs. Cora Lee Pettiford, and also visited her sister, Mrs. Sallie Jackson. Mrs. Louise Jenkins recent- I ly flew to New York City to visit Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Hedgepeth. While in the city she was shown courtesies by Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Lloyd and Sargeant and Mrs. Kennedy, former residents of this city. She also spent a day at Rye Beach and attended her first major league baseball game. Visiting Brother Elmer McLeod of Balti more, Maryland is visiting his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McLeo'd of 413 Lawson Street. Attended Post Session Charles Alston, Jr., of Fay etteville Street has returned home from New York where he attended a three weeks Post Session at Columbia Uni versity. Visited Parents Mrs. "Cora Brown of Btm- bar Street spent the weekend in Laurinburg visiting her mother, Mrs. Lula McKenzie. Mrs. Brown was accompanied home by her brother and fami ly, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mc Kenzie who spent a few 'days in Durham. Family Visited N. Y. Mrs. Rosetta W. Southerland and daughters, Doris Ann, Eva Rosetta and Wilmer Dexter of Umstead Street, spent a very pleasant five weeks' vacation in Brooklyn, N. Y., visiting husband and dad, William Dexter Southerland. Returns To Iowa Mrs. Lutherine Turner of Des Moines, Iowa has returned home after a week's visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil lie Alston Sr., of 1003 Fargo Street. Visiting Jn Durham Miss Lillie Lee, Alton Harris and Mrs. Janie E. Harris of 701 Reid Street in Reidsville, North Carolina were the weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Neal of Mill Grove. They also visited Mrs. Ann Webb of Booker Street. Stewardess Board Meets With Mrs. A. Young The Stewardess Board No. 3, of St. Marks AME Church had its opening meeting last Sunday afternoon, September 11th at the home of Mrs. An nie Young, 600 Glenn Street, with Mrs. Mary Frazier as co hostess. The president, Mrs. Min nie Alston, led the devotions and prp.ciripH over the meeting. She enthusiastically greeted the members and welcomed them back to meetings which h(ad been suspended for the summer. Each one responded. Ice cream, cake, pimch and accompaniments were served .. .Pictured above are Mr. and Mrs. Major Jones who were married Sunday, August 2B, at 5:30 p. m. The ceremony was performed in the St. Peters M. E. Church, Oxford. Prior to her marriage, the bride was Mist Mattie Parker, A reception following the ceremony was held at the home of the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Parker. Miss Sliirley Patlcer Returns To Winston-Salem Teachers College School bells will be ringing this week for Shirley Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jo seph S. Parker, Sr. of Bahama, North Carolina. Shirley will return to Win- tson-Salem Teachers College this week to Continue her stu dies toward a degree in ele mentary education. Last year as a freshman, Shirley received a scholarship award of $100.00, which was available to the freshman stu dent who during the school year was most outstanding In scholarship, service to the col lege and in toianlsfestation of a cooperative spirit. She served as secretary of the freshman class, vice-presi- deent of the Ivy Leaf Club, was re-elected secretary of the by the hostess. In addition to the above, she received a pin and cup awarded by the Sigma Gamma Mrs. Carlotta Holmes Returns From Vacation Mrs. Carlotta Holmes motor ed to Washington, D. C. and New York City, where she spent her vacation. In Wash ington she visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Washington. Friendly gestures accorded her were brunch at the home of Dr. and Mrs. F. G. Davis. She also spent many pleasant hours with the George Outtens and Robert Pinketts and play ed bridge with Mrs. Annie M. Wooten, and enjoyed dinner with Mrs. M. E. (Hilly) Jones. During the Washington visit Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Jones visited one day In 'Wilniington, Delaware with Miss Alaveta Hutson, in New York, Mrs. Holmes visited her sisters, Mrs. Cora Wilson and Mrs. Aletha Kennedy. Highlights of the New York vacation were a beach party with members of Beta Epsilon Chapter of the National So rority of Phi Delta Kappa and a visit with Mrs. Lenan Hoyte of New York at her summer home at Belmar, New Jersey. Soror Hoyt is Basileus of Beta Epsilon Chapter of the Nation al Sorority of Phi Delta Kap pa. The climax of Mrs. Holmes’ vacation was a yatchlng party around Manhattan Island and dinner with the following: Mrs. Evelyn Slntan, Mrs. Frances Tyler, Mrs. Ernestine Happs and Dr. and Mrs. De loss Berry.
