1' I -’I THE CAROLINA TIMES SATURDAY, SEPT. *4, 1W5 Lou Krefetz's 1955 Fall Edition Top Ten Rhythm And Blues Review To Be In Raleigh Monday, October 3 RALEIGH Promoter Joseph Winters announced this week that he has set a date with the Lou Krefetz’s Top Ten Rhythm and Blues. Review for the Ra leigh Memorial Auditorium. Promoter Winters stated that after long and much talk terms has been agreed upon where by the’ show will play a one night Show and Dance date in Raleigh on Monday October 3rd. Winters pointed out that this long and much talk was due to the' large cast in which the show is featuring this year causing the price to be higher and Winters wanted to hold to the line of the old admission prices. The show having th« largest total cast is costing more than any of the other shows to play in Raleigh. “It was after much talk that I was able to get a price that I could charge the same advance sale and general admission,” said Winters. The Big Five of the first Top Ten Review will return with this show, ^hey are; The Clovers, that Shake a Hand girl, Faye Adams, that Shake Rattle and Roll man. Big Joe Turner, Bill Doggett and his great combo, and Mr. Huckle- buck Paul Williams and his big band. New members to make the show are Bo Diddley and his great group. Gene & Eunice; that sensational vocal group. The Five Keys, Etta James and the peaches, Char lie & Ray. Other members from the first review include that great sing group of ‘Hearts of Stones”, The Charms and that sensational master of ceremonies, A1 Jack son, formerly of Patterson and Jackson. The show is a three hour production. Because of the large cast, there is no way to cut it shorter and present all members of the cast. Doors of the auditorium will open at 7:30 sharp. The show will hit at 8:15, on time, sharp. There will be dancing after the show' for what little time there is left; but because of the long show, there will be little danc ing. However for those who wish to dance there will be dancing until 1:00 a.m. Mail orders and tickets sale will be filled by Thlem’s Re cord Shop from their new lo cation in the Ambassador Theatre building on Fayette ville Street and Haihlin Drug Company. There will be only a limited number of advance sale tickets. An extensive and well planned program to ac quaint the incoming freslimen with various phases of life at Shaw University was carried out. The prograi / began with the usual registration procedures, which included payment of fees at the Business Office and room assignments by the Per sonal Deans. Lectures were given by va rious university officials, and each freshman was required to take an English examination and psychological test. Entertainment for the week included such features as a G«t Acquainted Social in the Student Center, sponsored by the Student Council, a theater party, courtesy of the Ambas sador Theater, the annual Tal ent night, tour of Raleigh, and the University Reception in Spaulding Gymnasium. Seirvices were held in the University Church Sunday morning. The sermon was de livered’ by the Rev, Moses N. DeLany. Sunday evening the Student Christian Association sponsored the services with Dr. W. R. Strassner giving an address on “The Spirit ot Shaw University.” Chemistry at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. Standing, New Manual For Driver License Applicants Now Available RALEIGH The State Department oi Motor Vehicles said a new manual for driver license ap plicants will go into use throughout the state tomor row. The text of the publication will emphasize proper driving attitude. Unchanged will be the four essential tests for be ginning drivers-eyesight, sign recognition, written test and road test. In commenting on the new manual Motor Vehicles Com missioner Edward Scheldt said, “The manual wUI point out for beginning drivers that knowledge and skill alone will not make a proficient driver.
