I^leigh Jack m Jill Club Plans For Polio Benefit Show RALEIGH The Raleigh Chapter of the Jack and Jill of America Club has completed plans for Its Hiird Annual Variety Show. The program is set for Friday, January 27, in the Ligon-Senior High School Auditorium. The net prbceeds will go to the Na tional Polio Foundation. Last year this chapter raised $500 for the March of Qimes and hopes this year to double the" amount. The Jacks and Jills, whose ages range from two to .five years, had their Christmas par ty on December 10, under the supervision of Mrs. Catherine Watson. On Saturday, Dec. 17, the six to nine year olds were entertained at the home of Mrs. Ruth Davenport, who is the chairman of that group. The schedule of events for tiie ten to twelve year olds will in cltide a Christmas party on Dec. 22; at the home of Mrs. Fannie Latham, and a skating party on Dec«nber 26. Mrs. Anne San ders, chairman of the teenagers has planned special activltlei for h^r group also. Oti. Christmas Eve all of the children will meet at St. Agnei Ho^ital with gifts for the sick ch^odren there, and will sing pkrols. Officers of the Raleigh Chap ter of the club are Mrs. Thelma M. Keck, president, Mrs. Eliza beth Cofield, vice president, Mrs. Marguerite Lightner, cor responding secretary, Mrs. Su sie V. Perry, recording secre tary, Mrs. Merca Yarbrough, reporter-historian and Mrs. Geneva Brown, music director. Chiurch of Durham observed its second anniversary Dec. 11. As a feature of the .observance. Rev. W. R. Foushee, pastor of the St. Joseph C.M.E. church of Chapel HUl, delivered a special anniversary sermon at the three o’clock afternoon services. Mu sic for the service was furnish ed by the choir of the St. Joseph church. A report of finances showed that some $692.67 had been col lected during the day, $513 be ing reported by captains in a special drive, and $52 being collected during the day’s of ferings. Rev. C. R. White, pastor of the clHirch, officiated at the regular morning worship ser vices. An increase in the church’s membership and a total of $7, 167 raised are two of the strides made by the chi^h un der the three and one-half months tenure of Rev. White, it was revealed during the an niversary services. Vernon Baptist Church was entertained at the home ot Mrs. E. B. Fogle, 1218 Pine St., teacher of the class. An inspir ing devotion was conducted and Bible verses pertaining to Christmas were repeated by all. The meeting was opened for business. ’The president, Mrs. Georgia Thompson presided over the meeting. The adoption of the minutes of the last meet ing, committee reports, and re ports from group captains on the project of the class were carried through. Guests present were Pastor and Mrs. Browne, Deacons T. L. Rowland, Willi am Davis and Samuel Scott. A delectable repast was ser ved.
