FEB. 25. 1»5« Second Meeting Of Durham Area AME Zion's Held At Kyles Temple The Second Mass Meeting of the Durham District of the Cen- trml North Carolina Conference was heM at the Kyles Temple AME Zion Church in Durham, on February 16. At 11 o’clock the meeting was opened for business. The opening hymn was “Jeius Calls Us Over the Tu mult.” The scripture was read by Mrs. W. W. Long. The second hymn was “I am Thine O Lord," after which thirty minutes of hymns were sung commemora ting the beginnmg of the Lent Services. Mrs. W. W. Long, who is the president of the Missionary So ciety of the Durham District, then called her officers to gether to transact the business for the meeting. The officers are as follows: President, Mrs. W. W. Long; Young Women, Mrs. Georgia Turner; Buds, Mrs. Beatrice Poole; Supply Captain, Miss AlUe Avant; Life member, Mrs. Gaither Lassiter. After the election of officers, a very good collection was tak en, which was over $250. Mrs. Long is the wife of that dy namic leader, Dr. W. W. Long, who has been Presiding Elder of the Durham District for over 30 years. The meeting was then blessed by words of encourage ment by Dr. L.ong. A guest speaker, Mrs. Annie Taylor, the widow of the late Bishop Taylor of the AMEZ Church, was presented by the President, Mrs. Lohg. Mrs. Tay journed a very delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings was served by the members of Kyles Temple Church. lor spoke on the theme, “Of Christian Womanhood." Mrs. Taylor stated that women have always played a great part and must conlinue to play a great part in Christian work. They also have always had the urge to work as Christian Mis sionaries and tliat the AMEZ Church need women now that would give their lives oif the mission fields in Africa. The message was well received by applause. ' After Mrs. Taylor’s address the president said that we^must make this one of our most pro gressive years in the history of the AME ZIen Church.
