IS. liSi Warning Issued Against Communist infiltration OfWasliington Assembly NKW TOBK Warning that “latenilve *t- forts »re being nwd« by left- wing group# and indivl9u«U" to infiltrate a acheduled clvU rights conference in Waahing- ton, NAACP KxecuUve Secre tary Roy Wilkins has written to all local units of the Association urging them to be “very care ful” in. the aelection of dele gates. His letter, sent to the branch es on Feb. 14, was a reference to the National Delegate Assem bly for Civil Rights, to be held in Washington on March 4 to 8. The Assembly is under sponsor ship of the Leadership Confer ence on Civil Hights, of which Wilkins is chairman. Local chapters -of the organi zations in the Leadership Con ference, including the NAACP, are selecting aelegates to the civil rights aasembly according to congreaaional districts. Wilkins’ letter asserted that "intensive efforts are being made by left-wing groups and Individuals to get into the As sembly as delegates.” > “Since they know that dele gates are limited to national organizations in the Leadership Conference and they know that none of their organizations is a member,” the letter continued, “they are trying to get eiccted as delegates by local Qhapt^rs of organizations already in the Leadership Conference." “They are making .t special effort to be elected as delegates by local branches of the NAACP,” the message said. "You know that the national policy of the NAACP ia not to cooperate with any Communist- front or left-wing group. Of course, we do not work with Communists.” Wilkins’ letter predicted that if the Washington rally is “cap tured” by left-wing individuals and groups,” it “will get very little attention, any, by the Congress.” Garden Club Meets Witiv Mrs. Hazel McBn The Azalea Garden C&b met with Mrs. Hazel McBroom at her home on Price Street, Feb. 13.
