Miss Cordell Thomp ■on, at their home on Concord Street. Presiding at the meeting was the president, Rev. H. A. Smith. The opening devotions were followed by a brief business ses sion. Appearing before the group as speaker was Dr. C. E. Boul- ware, professor of Mathematics at North Carolina College. He was presented to the group by Thomas Clements. The meeting was brought to a close after a serial period dur ing which refreshments were served. Mrs. ChrisUiie Totten gave some fine hints on Spring Cleaning of Gardens and The Planting and Care of Roses. The hostesses served delici ous assorted ssndwiches and hot tea. Colorful spring flowers were used in decorating. The^imeeting was called to order by the presi dent, Mrs. Pearl Cordice. Mrs Lil Farrington opened the gar den gate with the club’s song Prayer and the Pledge. The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. Flossie To- rain. Hi^^lights of the evening was a Travelogue and color films by Asa T. Spaulding, vice president of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, who was a member of the United States Delegation to the inaugu ral ceremonies in Liberia. Mr. Spaulding’s Travelouge and films were both interesting and enjoyable. At the close, the la dies had a good time asking questions which Mr. Spaulding answered obligingly. During the business meeting, minutes of the previ ous meeting were read by the secretary and reports from dif ferent members were given in trying to cheer the sick and shut ins, by visits, sending cards and in many other ways. This wafe “Talent Night” for the club members, so a lot of hidden tal ents were discovered and a-good time was had by all. Mrs. Le roy Peoples of McDougald Ter race, a former member of the club was welcomed back. The president stressed the impor tance of joining the NAACP. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Peyton, a re tired teacher of the District of Columbia Public Schools, will serve as banquet speaker on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. Miss Peyton has received wide recognition as a civic, social, educational and religious leader. Her outstanding contributions to the sorority have, been many "but her sincere interest in and high inspirations for young people single her out as a real torch bearer of the watch world of the sorority, "Finer Woman hood”.
