Herman Daves of Knoxville, Tennessee. Miss Turner graduated from North Carolina College ond at tended Bryn Mawr College. She received the Master of Arts de gree from the University of Minnesota and has done further study at Ohio State Univertity She is a member of Alpha Kap pa Alpha Sorority. Mr., Daves did his college pre paratory work at the Mt. Her man school in Massachusetts. He received the A.B. degree from Cornell University where he was a member of Watermargin. He holds the M.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Daves served two years in the Army in the Adjutant Gene rals Corps. He will Join the fa-' culty of Fisk University this fall. Miss Ruth Stephens and neice, Eugenia, of Powe St., are visit ing Mrs. Esther Jeffries Talley and family in Chester, Pa. The annual revival services of the First Baptist Church of Weldon will begin on August 18. A speaker from f^eld will deliver the messages. Rev. J. W. Wylie of Weldon and his wife are on vacation. Social Club Meets With Mrs. Markham The Onyx Social Club held its monthly meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Markham, July 8. The meeting was pre sided over by the president, Mr. Norfley Whitted. ' Bible verses were repeated by all members present, after which prayer was offered by the chaplain, Mr. John Mark ham. The minutes of the last meeting were read, received and adopted. The club held a brief business session, at which time all un finished business, as well as new business was disposed of. The hostess served a very de licious menu to the following members: Mr. and Mrs. N. Whitted, Mr. and Mrs. J. Law rence, Mr. and Mrs. C. Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. F. Frazier, Mr. and Mrs. J. I A L K OF THE TEENS By JVANITA SHELL JUaiMliA July 18th a dance was held for the Teen-Agers of our Town at the Columbia Heights Recte- ation Center from 8:00-11:30. Most of the Cool-Cool Cats were there on hand to mambo, cha-cha-cha, jitterbug off the latest on wax. .■ Approximately 130 students attended the Summer Session of sunomer school for a period of six weeks for various reasons. The summer session began on June 11-July 21. The academic courses offered were English, History, mathe matics and French. This year for the first time there is being offered a summer program of beliind the wheel driver training. However this course was only being offered to those students having com pleted driving theory during the regular school year. A Bermuda Ball was held July 20th at the Columbia Heights Recreation Center for all tuds and buds in Bermuda Shorts. Most of the jivers in Bermuda Shorts were around: A gift was given to a lucky per son wearing the prettiest Ber mudas.
