Webber of Wil mington has been indisposed tor several weeks here at tlie apart ment of her hon, T. R. Webber, 811 Fayetteville Street. We are happy to report that Mrs. Web ber is much improved and en joying her stay here with her son and his many fine friends. A large numt>er of Wilmington friends have also cheered Mrs. Webber with their frequent visits. GuetU Jrtjm Washington State Last Wednesday afternoon, Capt. and Mrs. Edwards of Spokane Washington were guests of Mrs. Minnie Gilmer of Dunbar Street. Joseph AME Church met Nov. 28 with Mrs. Lillie Mc- Dade at her home on Whitted Street. After the discussion of the lesson and other business transactions, refreshments were served by the hostess to the large number of members pre sent. Sunday Guests Mrs. Laura Burnette of Fay- •tteviUe Street had as her guests last Sunday, her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bur nett and their small son Henry Stephen III of Greensboro and Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Gaddy of Charlotte. The ocopision of the Simday’s visit was the baptizing of baby Henry III at St. Joseph AME Church. Mr. and Mrs. Gaddy are the baby’s God parents. Returns Home Mrs. Carrie Rigsbee of 1215 Mason Street has returned to her home from Lincoln Hospi tal where she was a patient for several weeks. Mrs. Tucker Hostess Members of the Oak Wood Park Beautifiers Club were en tertained on Wednesday even ing at 7 P.M. by Mrs. Charlotte Tucker at her home onMorse Street. Mrs. Susie Buie opened the garden gate and Mrs. Cora Blunt, > the president, presided over the meeting and presented the honored guest, Mrs. William Ameji' of the Amey’s Funeial Home, who gave some pleasing; remarks and very helpful ideas on Christmas corsages of which several members have made. Mr*. G. Stone represented the club with a Christmas arrange ment at the affair recently held at the Recreation Center. Plans for the Christmas party were also completed. The hostess ser- yed delicious refrerfjments to the guests and members. Copeland of Greensboro were among the guests in Durham last Sunday attending a meet ing of the Stale Ushers Associ ation. Mrs. McCoy Untertains Club Saturday evening December 8, members of the Wisteria Bridge Club' were entertained by Mrs. Lovey McCoy at her. home on Umstead Street. Before play began, a delicious turkey dinner was served by the hos tess. The winners of prizes were; First prize. Miss Mamie Elam, Second, Mrs. Pearl Cor- dice. Other members present were Mesdames Chat Rivera, C Ruth Edwards, Mary H. Shep ard, Clydie Scarborough, Pare- pa Watkins and Lil Buchanan. The Friendly Daughters Mrs. Elizabeth Young was hostess recently to the Friendly Daughters Club of St. Joseph AME Church. The meeting was held in the lounge of the Educa tional Building of the church with the president, Mrs. Alma Hughes presiding. During the business session reports and plans for the Christmas activi ties were given. Delightful re freshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Young. Members present, Mesdames Margaret Tucker, Delores McCall, Cora Lee Brown, Mary Campbell, Mamie Vinson, Elizabeth John son, Annie K. Daye and Edna Walker. A Gala Affair The Beta ,Pi Sigma Chapter Gamma Rho Sorority presented twenty five young ladies to so ciety formally at their fourth annual Debutante Ball Friday evening December 7. This gala affair that highlighted the sea son was held at the W. D. HiU Recreation Center on Fayette ville Street. Social Club Meets The 6-W Social Club was en tertained Monday night Dec. 3 at the home of Miss Kathryn Pierce in McDougald Terrace. The garden gate was opened by Bi ble verses and the Lords Prayer. The president, Mrs. M. W. Webb presided over the busi ness session during which plans were made for the Christmas Party. At this point we were in vited into the dining room where the table was ladened with delicious food buffet style. Guests were Mrs. Mary Simp kins and Mrs. Beatrice Manley. Webb enter tained members of the Lyon m ther decided that the annual New Year’s party be held at the home of Mr*. Audry Whit ted on Fayetteville Street the first Monday night in January. Charles Williams Murphy, Jr., is the son of 1st Lt, Charles W. Murphy, Sr., now stationed in Germany with the 11th Air Borne Division. Charles W. Murphy., Sr. is the son of Edgar D. Murphy, Sr., and the late Mrs. Blanch B. Murphy of 417 N. Davis St., Kinston. Park Rose Garden Club at her home 1200 Moreland Ave. The garden gate was opened by sing ing the ■ club song, scripture reading and the Lord’s Prayer. The president, Mrs. M. W. Webbi presided over a short business session. At the close of the busi ness, all members were Invitedi into the dining room and ser ved a turkey dinner with all the trimings. ’The Chairman of the Program Committee opened the workshop and quite a few; pieces of Christmas decorations were made to be used for tables, mantles and buffets. Pearsontown Club The Pearsontown Conomu- nity Club met Monday night, December 3, at the home of Mrs. Frances Watson on' Cecil Street, with Mrs. Rosabell Gil christ, president, presiding over the business session. The devo' tional service was conducted by Mrs. Lyda Ray. At this meeting the club made plans to send cards of cheer and money to the sick and shut-ins of the commui nity for Christmas.
