Detectives W. H. Upchurch. T.
A. Hicks and A. L. Hight, who
were a.ssi"ned to investigate the
fire after ar.son suspicion *ere
aroused, said the boy reported
that he got into East End school
and set a small blaze in a cUak
room around eight p.m.
The fire apparently smouldered
in the air tight room for nearly
eight hours before it boke loose.
Flames virtually gutted all of
the interior of the old, main sec
tion of the building which con
tained 16 class rooms and all of
the school offices.
However, city officials who in
spected the burned building late
Wednesday expressed the opinion
that the walls could be used in
rebuilding the gutted portion of
the structure.
In the Wake of the disastrous
flamet . Fast End teachers and stu
dents received an unexpected
holiday. Supt. L. W. Hannen an
nounced late Wednesday that
preparation were underway to
clean up water and smoko damage
in the new additions so that class
es could be resumed by Monday
at the school in the new wings.
Ilannen said the school probably
would operate on double sessions
until the end of the current term.
The school had an assignment of
700 pupils.

Parham’s entry in the mayor’s
race in Henderson is believed to
mark the first time that a Ne

His close supporters view hi?'
candidacy as a realistic political
move. They feel he has a good
chance to win. This ylew is
bolstered by the fact that four
other white men are in the race
which will be decided on the
basis of plurality.
