Soror Elizabeth Frasier disussed the scope of Operation Headstart based on her experiences as an instructor in the three-week training program sponsored by the University of North Caro lina. LYON PARK GARDEN CLUB HOLDS MEETING The Lyon Park Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Lossie Foushee, 1114 Cornell Street, Monday evening, November 29. Mrs. Thelma Mitchell had charge of the devotion. A pas sage of Scripture was read fol lowed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. Mrs. Helen McClain, presi dent, presided over the busi ness session. Committee reports were received. After the busi ness session, Mrs. Foushee in vited us into the dining roota and we were served a delicious menu of barbecue chicken, peas, carrots, salad, pickles stuffed celery, candied sweet potatoes .rolls, coffee and cake to the following members: Mes dames Pearl Brown, Elizabeth Bullock, Marie Canty, Fannie Cozart, A. B. Josephine Hoskins, Helen McClain, Ruth Mears, Catherine s&aw, Fannie Tapp, Bessie Thompson, Mae W. Webb, Alice Jones, Virginia Haskins. Thelma Mitchell, Mary Hardy, Mioses liable Free land, and Alene Mebane. A beautiful arrangement of roses graced the dining room table. Mrs. Jo- Julia Harris, Eva Pratt, Mlnni* Cromartia and Maggia Hanry. Dunbar Social Club of Raleigh In 23rd Year RALEIGH—The Dunbar So cial Club was organized 23 years ago purposely to promote and support better social, civic and underpriviledged activities in this area. The aim is "we thrive to excel." Only young married men of good character may join the club. Since it was organized it has contributed to hospitals, schools, and church funds for the underprivileged on special occasions like Xmas and Thanksgiving. The club sponsors social af fairs annually. Money raised from these socials are to sup port the forestated contribu tions and our annual formal Af fairs. It is a non-profitable or ganization chartered by the State of North Carolina. Officers are as follows: Presi des*. 9... Trrry Hough; Vice President, Andrew Bates; Re cording Secretary, J. Linwood Hooker; Financial Secretary, James Perry; Treasurer, Thom as Glascoe; Social Chairman, James Johnson; Sergeant-at- Arms, Cleveland Hicks. The club's annual fall dance was held Friday, November 12, and was entertained by Irving Fuller's Band, featuring the amazing "Little James Brown Jr.," better known as Vernon Calhoun Shaw of Raleigh and a senior at the J. W. Ligon High School. Shaw has won several tro phies in the entertainment field in this area, including a James Brown Trophy awarded on a talent hunt show given in Raleigh sponsored by Radio Station WLLE, featuring Sam and Bill, the recording artists. He has appeared on a local television show and is the MC and Disc Jockey for a radio show sponsored by Ligon High School on Saturday at 11 A.M. He has appeared in several schools clubs, and social affairs including the Stallion Club in Durham. In addition to all this he has maintained an honor roll average for the year. sephine Hoskins thanked the hostess.
