LAST RITES ARE HELD FOR MRS. HATTIE S. PEAKS TUESDAY, MAY 3 Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Shaw Peaks, 65, who de parted this life April 29, were held Tuesday, May 3, at Came ron Grove Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Thorpe, officiating. Mrs. Peaks, the daughter of the late Luna Colleyand Eze kiel Shaw, was born in Gran ville County, January 26, 1901. She became a member of Union Chapel Church in Gran ville County at an early age. Later on, she moved to Durham County, and married the late Roosevelt Peaks. To this union twelve children were born. She then became affiliated with Cameron Grove Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully until death She is survived by nine daughters, Mrs. Clara Bell Amos, Mrs. Luna Mae Hicks, Mrs. Alyce P. Little, Mrs. Lu cille Turner, Mrs. Gertrude Burnette Mrs. Hattie L. Me bane, Mrs. Barbara Jean Jen kins, Mrs. Dorothy L Johnson all of Durham, and Mrs. Pa trica Ann Jones of Camden, N. J.; three sons, Waddell, Joe Louis and James Carlton Peaks all of Durham; two sisters, BIRTHS 11^ The following births were re ported to the Durham County Health Department during the week of April, 25 through 30, Joseph and Lucille Turren tine, boy; Robert and Linda Day, girl; Emerson and Magda line Burton, boy; Roosevelt and Margie Evans, girl Margie Evans, girl. SHIKLDS Women's Day To be Held at First Calvary Woman's Day and Mother's Day will be observed simultan eously Sunday, May 8, at the First Calvary Baptist Church. At the close of his message, 10 new mem bers were welcomed into the church. At 3 p.m., the senior choir climaxed its 31st anniversary celebration with the Rev. J. W. Barnes, his choir and congre gation of Terrell Creek Baptist Church, in charge of services. The subject of Rev. Barnes' sermon was "Four People that go to Church." Twenty-seven new members were baptised in services at 6:45 p.m. These new members joined the other Greater St. Paul members in communion subsequent to the baptismal service. Names NAACP Life Staffers J. L. Holloway has been ap pointed to the life membership committee of the Durham Branch of the NAACP as co chairman. He will be working in cooperation with Mrs. Olivia Cole, the other chairman. Long active in civic and community affairs, Holloway issued an invitation this week to all churches, businesses, sororities, fraternities, and in dividuals to take out life mem berships in the organization.
