Both majored in j business education and minor-1 ed in secondary education However, Mr. Finch chose to | do intern and was assigned to the Dean of Men's office at j NCC, while Mrs. Finch did stu dent teaching at Hillside High in Duiham. It has not been easy for the couple to attend college. Both had to work part time, Mrs. Finch had to stay out one se mester and work full time, an other time she had to go to the hospital twice, still other times, each of them worked two part-time jobs. Neverthe less, they puafaed forward, de termined to reach their goals: many 3s one of the season's top ~oci.il events. Mr. Finch graduated from Spaulding High School in Spring Hope in 1956 and com pleted his undergraduate work at NCC last summer. He re ceived the Men's Merit Sys tem Award for participation in- Affk-ttl stwJwrt •activities fin the college year 1965-66. Since last August, he has been em ployed as Residence Director of Chid ley Hall—the dormitory for NCC's men students. Mr. Finch is originally from Mid dlesex. Mrs Finch taught at Durham Business College the second se mester of this year. She is the former Miss Quentine Dingle, a 1959 graduate of Darden High School in Wilson. As North Carolina College grants degrees just once a year, the couple received their Bach elor of Science in Commerce Degrees Sunday, May 28 at the institution's 56th annual com mencement program. Thus, they entered college together in 1962 and they graduated to gether in 1967. The couple has been married sevfen vcars and expect thier first child next month. Adams, 1409 Ridgeway Ave. Friends of the popular joung couple relaxed amidst a variety of foods and refreshments and took turns entertaining with songs and the playing of a va riety of instruments. Particu larly effective were Mrs. Ma rion Menapace on a custom made dulcimer and Dr. "Kipp" llerried on the ukulele; James Robinson surprised all with his excellent renditions of spirit uals and folk ditties. Miss Wynn, a graduate of Dudley High School, received the bachelor's degree from Hampton Institute, Hampton, Va. and her master's degree in Speech and Hearing Sci ence from Michigan State University. While enrolled at Michigan State University, she participated in a student exchange program at the Uni iversity of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. A former instructor at Hampton Institute, Miss Wynn is presently Speech Pathologist with "the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health, D. C. Department of Public Health, Washington, D. C. She is a member of Delta Sig ma Theta Sorority. Mr. Dancy received his B.A. degree in history from Virginia Union University and the bachelor of divinity degree from Virginia Union School of Religion. He is di rector of the Neighborhood Youth Corps in Richmond, Va. In June, he will assume his duties as minister of John Street Baptist Church, Wor chester, Mass. cises, held at the Locust Grove Baptist Church, Sunday, May 28. A large crowd heard Rev. Brooks in a message in which he charged his audience that the one way to provide the es sentials of life are to accept responsibility and make sacri fices. He said that we cannot expect others to do for us what we can do ourselves. Music for the occasion was rendered by the Coley Spring Baptist Church of which Rev. Brooks is the pastor. Mrs. Irene Hinton served as chairman of the Shaw Day Committee. The Locust Grove pastor is Rev. H. Albert Smith of Durham. Dr. W. T. Bigelow was the speaker, the Young Adult Choir of the Greater St. Paul Baptist Church rendered the music. The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of 2 oil paintings of the late Dr. Clarence Edward McLester one of which was presented to his widow Mrs. Jennie Blunt McLester. This portrait was given by Mrs. Catherine Ruffio Blunt, the other was presented to the chairman of the Deacon Eiard who received it for the church for the Loyal Group The Loyal Group was named by Dr. McLester and is one of the many progressive groups of the church. MISS WOODS HAYNES 2 Albany State Seniors Get U.S. Positions ALBANY, Ga. Cleveland Haynes and Carolyn Woods, graduating seniors at Albany State College, have been ap pointed to positions with the U.S. Social Security Adminis tration. Both will begin a 13- week training period on June 19 before being assigned to one of the district offices in the southeast region. According to Sanford B. Mc- Kenzie, director of placement at the college, both Haynes and Miss Woods have been ap piinted social insurance or claims representatives. Notifi cation of their appointment was received from Sam F. Smith, regional representative of the Social Security Administration's district office operations in Chicago, 111. Haynes, the highest ranking senior in the division of social sciences, is a native of Orlan do, Fla. The 21-year old his tory major is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ulysses Haynes of 2396 Orange Court Biulevard. Orlando. Vice-president of the '67 graduating class, he is a mem b"r of Sigma Rho Sigma Hon or Society, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a selection to the Who's Who Among Stu dents in American Colleges and Universities.
