Pitt County brought home the queen in the person of Linda Gatlin. Miss Gatlin of. Simpson 4-H. Club, also received three 4-H camp clover awards for wild life. Mrs. Charlie Jackson Hostess at Shower for Miss Virginia Rogers Mrs. Charlie Jackson was the hostess Monday evening, Jline 19, al her home on En terprise Street, for a miscel laneous shower honoring Miss Virginia Queen Rogers, bride lect of Charles E.- Burnette. The affair was held in the beautifully decorated back yard of the Jackson home, with Japanese latterns and candles illuminating the scene, compli menting the blooming spring flowers along the border gar den. The serving table was cover ed with a white cloth, centered with an eight candelabra con taining white candles. The gift table was covered with a white cloth and centered with a huge white wedding bell entwined with green ribbons. Following bridal games and the opening of the gifts, a de licious repast was served con sisting of chicken salad sand wiches, cheese wafers, peanut butter canapes, Hawaiian History Teacher Wins Fellowship FAYETTEVILLE Pene lope L. Slacum, history in structor at Fayetteville State College, has received a facul ty fellowship' from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minn., (or a Far East Institute to be held at the college June 19-July 14. The fellowship is one of 30 awarded to college faculty members from colleges re presenting 16 states. Partici pants were selected on a competitive basis. Dr. Scott Johnston, chair man of Hamline's political science department and in stitute director, said that the program is related to the concern that American libe ral arts college curriculums tend to slight would civiliza tions beyond Europe. Receiving his secondary edu ation in the public schools of Warrenton, Davis completed undergraduate training at N. C. College, majoring in Politi cal Science, where he received the B.A. degree. In June of 1965, he graduated from the North Carolina College Law School under the combined de gree program.
