The 23rd anniversary Bishop A. W Lawson, pastor of the Fisher Memorial United Holy Church, will be observed by the congregation September September 25-October 1. Bishop Lawson assumed th* pastorial duties of the original Gospel Tabernacle at the death of Bishop H. L. Fisher in 1944. Rev. Lawson is a graduate of Livingstone College in Salis bury, from which he received the A.B. degree and Shaw Uni versity in Raleigh from which he received the B.D. degree. During the 23 years he has pa* tored the church many mem bers have been converted. in addition to the above men tioned achievements under Rev. j Lawson's leadership a modern, spacious edifice has been erect ed and a day care center has been organized and approved by the federal government. Since being consecrated as a bishop of the church Rev. M. E. Zion Church, dedicated a house at 300 S. Virginia St., which will serve as the par sonage for the minister and his family. The pastor is the Kev. T. G. Watts and the Rev. G. F. Bur ney is the presiding elder. The ceremony began Sunday morning when Bishop H. B. Shaw delivered the dedicatorial sermon at the church. In the afternoon the formal ceremon ies were held at the house The keys were presented to the trustees with the admonition that they were to hold property in trust as the residence of the pastors and their families, who serve St. James Church. The trustees accepted the keys and pledged that they would be mindful of the ad monition. The trustees present ed the keys to the stewards, whose duty is to provide a suit able place for the pastor and his family. St. James Church is one of the land marks of the city and has served the community for a number of years. It has shown exceptional growth under the pastorate of Rev. The youth of West Durham Baptist will co-ordinate its program with BSU of Duke each month. The speaker for Sunday will be the Rev. James Y. Green, ' Chaplain to Baptist Students of Duke. Mr. Green is a native of Asheville, where he received his public school training. His education was continued at i Wake Forest College where he ! graduated (Magna Cum Laude). j He also holds the B.D. degree j from Southeastern Baptist The- j ological Seminary, and has done further study at the Uni- | versity of North Carolina in I Anthropology.
