I. Bill this coming fall. If I work while attending col lege, will the amount of money I earn be deducted from my G. I. Bill allowance? A - No. The amount of G. L Bill education Allowance paid by the Veterans Adminis tration is determined only by the amount of schooling you receive (i.e. full-time, half-time or quarter-time training), plus the number of your dependents. Whether you work or have other income does not affect your VA allowance. However, an outside job could affect your school sche dule - that is whether or not you will be allowed to carry a full-time course. Q - My pension from the Veterans Administration was increased the first of the year. Was this an automatic cost of-living increase and will the pension be raised again next year if living costs continue to rise? A - The increase in your VA pension was not automatic. It resulted from a law passed by Congress last year restructur ing the VA pension program and providing for increases depending upon the amount of the recipient's Income. Since it is not automatic, any future increases in pension amounts must be legislated by Congress. Q - The Veterans Adminis tration pays $250 toward the burial expense of deceased eligible veterans. Is this allow ance also payable when inter ment is in a national cemetery where there is no charge for the burial plot? A - Yes. The place of burial makes no difference. The $250 allowance is paid toward the total funeral expense. Q - My Aunt is the widow of a Spanish-American War veteran. She receives S7O a month pension from the Vete rans Administration. The scholarships, each of which will cover a six-quarter curriculum at Central Pied mont, are specifically designed to attract high school graduates who had not previously plan ned to attend college, accord ing to T. G. Larimer, Employee Relations Manager for Hum ble's Southeastern Region. "We have tried to develop a program, and a procedure for selection, that will bring addi tional young people into the business world with marketable skills," Larimer said, "Graduat ing seniors from local high schools who have already made plans to attend a four-year college will not be eligible for one of these scholarships." Initially, Humble will fund five scholarships at Central Piedmont, two in secretarial science and three in accounting. Each scholarship recipient will receive a grant that will cover the cost of tuition and books, plus a weekly allowance that will range from $25 a week the first quarter to $35 a week the second through fourth quartos. During the fifth difference? A - The $75 check goes to the widow of a Spanish-Ameri can War veteran who was married to the veteran during all or part of that war. The widow such as your aunt, apparently, who married such a veteran after the war receives the S7O monthly check. Q - I was awarded a pension from the Veterans Administra tion last year. My wife and I are planning to sell our home and move to Florida. Will the sale of the home effect my pension? A - Not directly. Proceeds from the sale of property are not considered income for vete rans under the present pension law. Approximately 100 Families Left Homeless by Disaster Get Aid WASHINGTON—Approxi - mately 100 families left home less by separate disasters in two Mississippi communities are eligible or have already moved into emergency mobile home housing as a result of the work by a special Presidential fact-finding mission that visited the disaster areas this week. Robert J. Brown, special assistant to President Nixon, reported Saturday that Hous ing and Urban Development Secretary George Romney has set aside 100 mobile homes to meet emergency housing needs for victims of an explo sion in Laurel and for families whose homes were levelled by a tornado that ripped through the Hazelhurst ares. The mobile homes are being made available to families in the disaster communities as needs are certified by local housing authorities. Brown said eight units al ready are occupied in Laurel and 10 additional units now are in varying stages of readi ness for occupancy. Upward to 32 additional units can be assigned to Laurel if needed. On Saturday 12 units ar rived in Hazelhurst and 38 additional mobile home units can be sent to that community on the request of local authori ties. The results generated by the Presidential fact- finders prompted Laurel Mayor Fern Bucklew to send the following telegram to Secretary Romney: "Deeply grateful for your concern and prompt response to our need in Laurel, Miss. Your capable representatives were our guests Monday. They represented very favorably and forcefully both your office and President Nixon in their per sonal inspection tour. Our en tire city says thank you for prompt performance rather than empty promises." Brown reported Aaron Hen ry of the Mississippi NAACP and the Rev. Alan Johnson of the Mississippi A state and local officials gave their full cooperation with the Presidential fact-finders.
