The 197 C class has a choice of foui different ring design* includ ing the traditional Hillside High School ring. The student! will be voting on which ring they want soon. The seniors, at Hillside, are proud to be under the leadership of Alex ander Kirk, President of the class and Arthur Smith as Vice president. The Chronicle Staff is try ing very hard to put out its first edition at Hillside, under the supervision of Mrs. Nancy Brannan. Editor, Mary Joyner, is having a hard time getting everything in order before sending, the final draft and make the Chronicle the best yet As always, the first edition of the Chronicle is during the Christmas season and is full of Christmas - grams from boy to girl, girl to boy, student to teacher, etc. I know this edi tion of the Chronicle will be greatest ever. Hillside's Marching Band participated in the Christmas parade in downtown Durham last Friday. It has been a long time since Hillside has been in this parade. The Band's per formance was definitely terri fic and everyone enjoyed it. Two of Hillside's seniors, Jacqueline Wadell and Deborah Thorpe, were on a float in the I J w w PHILLIP JONES parade. Other bands in the parade were from Durham, Northern and Southern High Schools and from Whitted and Carr Jr. High. The Hornet Yearbook Staff announced last Tuesday that they are sponsoring a patron drive for the senior class. The drive began with the announce ment. I am asking you, as Yearbook Editor, to please support the Hillside Yearbook by patronizing. Your coopera tion and support will, indeed, contribute to the success of the Hillside Yearbook, Class of 1970. sl2 Million Facility To Locate In Clay HAYESVILLE The state's most rural county— and one of its poorest—is get ting a sl2 million plant that will ultimately employ 600 persona with an annual payroll in ex cess of $3 million. Plans for a carpet manufac turing plant in Clay County were announced jointly Wednes day by Marshall Y. Cooper, chief executive officer of Har riet and Henderson Cotton Mills, and Roy Sowers, director of the N. C. Department of Con servation and Development. Cooper said construction on the first $4 million phase of the plant will begin as soon as the Clay County Development Corp. is able to arrange financing.
