FUNERAL SERVICES HELD
FOR MRS. DOROTHY S.
INGRAM
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, September 8 at 2:00
P.M. for Mrs. Dorothy Scott
Ingram at Mount Olive A.M.E.
Zion Church.
Mrs. Dorothy Scott Ingram,
the daughter of the late Ver
non and Mirtie Long Scott,
was born in Apex, North
Carolina on March 31, 1922.
She departed this life Septem
ber 4, 1970.
She attended the City
Schools off Durham, North
Carolina. She was united in
holy matrimony to Mr. James
Ingram on May 9, 1946.
She joined the Union Bap
tist Church at an early age.
After her marriage to Mr. In
gram she joined the Mount
Olive A. M.E. Zion Church.
She is survived by her hus
band, Mr. James Ingram; three
sisters, Mrs. Dora S. Millar,
Durham, North Carolina, Mrs.
Alma S. Harris, Durham, North
Carolina, Mrs. Minnie S.
Walker, Bronx, New York; one
niece Mrs. Joyce Belton, Dur
ham, North Carolina, one
Great nephew, and two Great
nieces.

Baha'i speaker will be Mrs.
Tereh Cowart Smith, an inter
national Baha'i lecturer from
Greensboro.

Joseph linwood Harris, Jr.,
son of Mrs. Meiinda Daye Har
ris and the late Joseph L. Har
ris, was born in Durham,
North Carolina April 8, 1941.
He departed this life Septem
ber 2, 1970.
He attended Durham City
Schools and was a member of
First Calvary Baptist Church
up until two years ago he made
his home with his paternal
aunts, Clara and Margaret
Harris.
Survivors include: six sis
ters, three brothers, six aunts;
two uncles, and a host of rela
tives and friends.
The family will miss him
deeply

Raymond Anderson, the
son of Mrs. Lodister Hazel,
was born in Burlington, North
Carolina. He departed this
life September 7. 1970.
He attended the Burlington
and Durham City Schools.
He joined Russell Memorial
C.M.E. Church in 1952.
He was affiliated with several
organizations of the church
during his life span.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards Ander
son; four daughters, Mrs.
Joyce Williams of Missouri,
Mrs. Marina Sanders of New
York, Mrs. Janet Wiggins and
Miss Martha Anderson of
Durham, North Carolina; one
son, Mr. Raymond Edward
Anderson; his mother, Mrs.
Lodister Hazel; one sister,
Mrs. Margaret Allen of Balti
more Maryland; one aunt,
Mrs. Daisy Peterson; two
uncles, Mr. Robert Hazel and
Mr. Samuel Hazel; fourteen
grandchildren; two nephews
and two nieces, and a host
of relatives and friends.

OBSERVES 91st
YEAR SEPT. 18th
The New Bethel Baptist
Church will celebrate its 91st
year from September 18th
thru 20th. This year has been
designated by the church as
pre-Centennial. The first pastor
of the church was the Rev.
C. D. Hackney, who served the
church faithfully for 25 years.
Since then, the church has had
six ministers. The sixth pastor

It is not unusual to have
birthdays, but it is unusual to
have two such nice surprise
birthday parties. Such was the
case with Rev. J. C. Cheek
and his family pictured above.
"The first of Rev. Cheeks sur
prises came on Saturday Sept.
12, at 6:30 p.m. at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Bran
don, 2914 Cedarwood Drive.
Mrs. Brandon very graciously
served a delicious repast of
steak, tossed salad, garlic
bread, ice cream and cake. En
joying this affair were Rev. and
Mrs. Thomas, Mother Rogers
and Mr. and Mrs. Garrison
and family of Graham.
Immediately following Sun
day morning worship services
he was again surprised with a
buffet dinner in the fellow
ship hall. Mesdames Mable
Caldwell and Francis Vinson
jointly chaired this dinner with
the entire church family parti
cipating. Seated at the table
with Rev. and Mrs. Cheek this
time were Mesdames Agnes
Mary Mebane, aunts of Gra
ham, along with mesdames
Agnes Lea and J. Riley,
friends of the family.
At the night service on Sun
day, Rev. Cheek thanked the
congregation for all the gifts
and surprises tendered him.

Memorial C. M. E. Church,
