ULL CITY HAPPENINGS „ By MICKEY Hi Durhamites: Mickey made it back to the Bull CJty this past weekend from his journeys here and there, and man was the set swinging! Pulling into the "sin city" of the Piedmont late Friday night, I made the scene at this swinging S&S Grill. On stage we re those talented Dov* Is. They come across with tile kind of music that really blows the mind. During the short time that I spent there because old Father Sleepy-time began tug ging at my eyelids, I spied some out of sight examples oi the beautiful soul sisters of this fine town. There was this one chick in a Mack leather jumpsuit, with a "fro" that really did her justice. We met over a couple of highballs, and got fairly well acquainted. Just so that none of you chicks who made that set Fri day p.m. and Saturday a.m. blow your cool with old Mick, I dug you all and each and everyone of you were clean out of sight. With all due respects to that swinging scene on Alsr ton Avenue, I passed it up Saturday night and went on down to the "stable" at the Highway 55, Cornwallis Road junction. Baby, talk about a doubleheader! Jamming on the psycho delic stage were the Skulls & Bones and The fabu]pus Shamrocks. As you fine people have as cetralned (d4g the big words— on Webster's, on Thesaurus), I have been absent from these shores for quite some time, and therefore, Saturday p.m. was the first time I dug the Shamrocks as they are pres ently composed. The only word to describe the show they come across with is CRAZY. Good, but crazy. The brothers on those in struments really do a mean J-O-B. The sisters who croon those soulful notes aren't bad ♦ Winsfon-Salem State + Extended Services ▼ 1971 Spring Semester On Campus Courses A Undergraduate General Biology 11-3 Semester Hours A Registration: Jan. 28, 29, and Feb. 1, Blair Hall Class Begins: Tues., Feb. 2, 6 p.m. Cost: S4O ▲I. But as all of you who are familiar with the Shamrocks know, the star of the show is MAMA! For the unlniated, Kama is tall, lanky, skinny and Uggg . . . (opps). Anyway, is the she, the he, the IT who sings fairly well, dances, believe it or not, quite sexily. But the biggest thing Mama got going for him is showman ship. He's ' a real showman from the first school. He really knows how to Ret the audience involved. And baby, there toward the end, that chick that, ran up on stage and went through this impromptu bump and grind really tagged a way out ending to the show. WOW! Now to the Skull and Bones, and they are not last because of being least, but you know that old saying, save the best for last. Got a chance to dig Valerie again Saturday night. Last time I saw this chick, she was singing a solo act with the group that apparently has evolved into the Skull and Bones. Anyway, she's still good and beautiful as ever. And that sister who sings with her wasn't bad either. Summing it all up in a word, this aggregation of brothers from the North and South (North and South Dur ham that is) is good enough to go places. Good luck, fel lows- Now, before I go until the next time Mickey makes this set. Let me mention a few plaudits (rap on brother) for the swinging brothers and sisters who also made this set. There was JoAnn, an old friend, and her sister, both as fine as ever. I also dug my man with the "carrying Case", swing right on man, and hang in there. Sure hope you and the old lady get your thing together; life's too short for spats. But anyway, there's alway a lot of fun in making up.
