RUSS ff"! H 5th District Sunday School Convention convened recently, at the Union Bap tist Church, Thursday, March 22 Is the when the first ses sion was held. Aside from the illustrous Dr. W. T. Bigelow. pastor of The Greater St. Paul Baptist Church and Gospel Choir the Russ Sanders Singers The Ebony Ensemble high lighted the midweek cession of the convention. The Ebony Ensemble is a 'Family Affair" the Aimer Mason family. The Masons are comparatively new com ers to the U. B. Church fam ily; nevertheless, they have become so completely inte grated in the church's pro gram that one might easily gather that they have always been part 'n parcel' to the seemingly clannish congrega tion. The Ebony Ensemble blends and harmonizes in the mar velous way that is typical of "kindred voices." The present quartet is an offshoot of the Lakeview Baptist Church's Junior Choir, on Dearborn Drive, whose in itial meeting, on the first day of December, 1966, was held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Abner Mason, Sr. The Ebony Ensemble con tinues to use Blue and White as their color standard Blue: best in its class; White: purity in thoughts and deeds. CREDO "Children Learn What They Live" If a child lives with critl- criticism, He learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, He learns to fight. If a child lives with ridicule, He learns to be shy. If a child lives with shame He learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with tole rance, He learns to be patient. If a child lives with encour agement. He learns to be confident, ff a child Uver.'With praises. He learns to appreciate. If a child lives with fairness, He learns justice. If a child lives with security, He learns to have faith. If a child lives with approval, He learns to like himself. If a child lives with freedom, He learns to find love in the world. The Ebony Ensemble is blessed with a loving, devot ed father, Abner Mason, Sr. He thoroughly enjoys gather ing around the piano with his family for a vocalizing ses sion. This habit, naturally, spills over into other occa sions: Church and Community Programs. He is a member of the Ensemble. Mr. Mason works as Meter Reader for Duke Power Company. This "singing parent" is a mem ber of Doric Lodge No. 28 Durham. Abner senior be lieves strongly that the fam ily who sings together, stays together. Mrs. Maxlne H. Mason, the mother, works with Turn Key 111 as counselor for moderate income families Interested in home ownership. She is a member of Eastern Star Pros pectus, Chapter 397. Sewing is her hobby. And here, at Union Baptist, she is a mem ber of the Pastor's Aide So ciety. Mrs. Mason is devoted to the Development of Youth through Christian oriented programs: Sports uppermost. The Christian program is all-out effort for all of us professing to be follower of the Lamb. In the event you have ether ideas, you come under the classification of .hot, cold and lukewarm. You have to he one of the three and not all three or two of the three. Christ came as was promis ed. The thing He did, caus ed; not all but many to be lieve that He was the one to come or the Son of God. He also told them that He 1 to' return. Patilla's education has pyramided rapidly since graduating from Merrick-Moore High School. She is a graduate of Lincoln University an honor stu dent; also, she has done ex tensive studying in the Euro pean and African areas. The Ebony Ensemble has, In a short span of three years, made tremendous strides In the field of Gospel and Spiritual Singing. Sunday, November 7, 1971, they appeared on the Nightin gales Anniversary that was held at Durham High School. Mrs. Mason admits, without reservations, that this was the most rewarding experi ence that "we have had dur ing our three years of sing ing. He is men tioning leaving or going to Jeruselam to be killed. They had become so dose to Him by now, they were worried about the things He was say ing. He told them about the Holy Ghost. His Father and Himself would send the Holy Ghost to work with them un til He return. His followers were really confused and on top, of that, afraid. By now the none be lievers were applying the pressure on Him and His fol lowers. Through all of this, He told them, after his leav ing, that He would return to them. His frankness concerning His next return caused ques tion marks from all of them. He told them that He would slip up on them. There will not be any warning about my returning. When you know anything, there I will be. He described His returning ai a thief breaking into a house at night. When you know anything, there I will be. He warned them to be ready; not at certain times but at all times. He told them to have oil in your vessels at all times. We have had am ple warning and those of us who desire to ignore the truth (Christ is the truth) will have to suffer the wrath God is going to pour out on all of the unbelievers. When that day comes, all unbelievers will run to the Durham Hotel, N. C. Mutual building and other tall and big buildings, begging them to fall on them to hide them from the face of a angry God. It will be an unsual time, a regrettable time and a very sad time for all of us who fail to do as Christ advises us on His first trip.
