Dr. S.B. Kul bright, Dean of the School of Business and Jarvis Martin, Director of Management and Technical Assistance have worked toward making this effort possible. The purpose of this seminar is to provide training in the area of business management. Classes will be held on Tuesday nights, beginning September 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Commerce Building. The instructors for the seminar will be instructors from the School of Business at NCCU. The subjects outlined for (See SEMINAR Page 9A) Mrs. Eva day ton Named Exec Director, Soul City foundation New Durham- Orange Bank in Planning Stage Incorporators announced plans recently to establish a new locally owned commercial bank to serve Durham and Orange Counties. Howard N. Lee, Chapel Hill Mayor, and Durham dentist Dr. Curtis Bowens, co-chairmen, of the 15 Incorporators, said the new institution, Triangle United Bank, hopes to gain approval of the N.C. Banking Commission at its November meeting. Formal application will be filed with the Commission in October. Lee said the new bank is now offering for subscription 135,000 shares of stock at $15 a share. Triangle United Bank will locate in the vicinity of South Square Mall on Chapel Hill Boulevard. Plans call for a multi-story building with ample parking and drive-in service. All 15 Incorporators are (See BANK Page 9A) Mother Is Charged With Shooting Son A lS-year-okl Durham youth, whose mother has been charged with shooting him, was reported in satisfactory condition at Watts Hospital Saturday. The youth, Perry Lee Shaw of 111 Moline St., was shot in the chest with a small-caliber pistol during an argument Fri day night, police said. Mrs. Louise Cates Andrews, 49, also of 111 Moline St. was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. She was identified as the youth's mother. Police said the incident took place at the Andrews home. Bond for Mrs. Andrews was set at $2,000. jjEfSHra Rocky Bi Omegas Honor Mount Businessman Mrs. Eva M. Clayton has been named Executive Director of the Soul City Foundation in Warren County, North Carolina, it was announced recently by Floyd McKissick, P r e s ioW- '-'M cKissie k Enterprises and Developer of Soul City, and by Dr. Albert Whiting, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Soul City Foundation. Mrs. Clayton, who has been Executive Director of the North Carolina Health Manpower Development Program, with offices in Chapel Hill, has taken a leave from her duties with that program to assume the Soul City position. As Director of the Foundation, she will have overall responsibilities for developing the broad spectrum of social services for the new community of Soul City and its environs. In her statement, of acceptance, she noted that major emphasis in the first months of her tenure will go to industrial development, as the critical basis for development of human services. In addition, said Mrs. Clayton, "Educational development is a major need, for industries who come into Soul City will need trained personnel and will be interested in a good system of public education. Sunday, September 9f- All Prince Hall Masonic Lodges in Durham, namely Doric 28, Dorcas 460 and A. S. Hunter 825 will reach one of the greatest milestone in the Masonic history of Prince Hall Masonry in Durham. Ninety-five years ago steps were taken to bring Prince Hall Masonry to Durham. Twenty-five tried and true free men, worthy and well qualified, met for the purpose of organizing a Lodge of Masons in Durham. I can imagine it was a day when the rough hewn streets of Durham were seldom paved and when the horse and buggy held pre-eminence as a means of transportation. I believe it was a day when God hid back in the deeper recesses of divine. Purpose the now immortal Lincoln for whom no human being in America would predict he would ever be elected to anything but the place of a legal practioner in the country districts. Ronald Dellums, Democrat of California, has pleaded guilty in Juvenile Court to a charge of armed robbery. The 16-year-old, accompanied by his mother, Arthurine Dellums, admitted holding up a grocery store June 24 with a 12-year-old friend Defense attorney Howard Moore, who successfully defended Angela Davis, said that Michael Dellums had "severe emotional problems." Dellums and his wife have been separated for several years now. OMAHA SCHOOLS SUED BY JUSTICE DEPARTMENT WASHINGTON - (NBNS)-- The Omaha, Nebraska school system is the object of a suit filed by the Justice Department on charges of maintaining racially segregated schools in violation of the law. The government is asking the court to order the school board to implement a plan that would eliminate de jeur segregation in the city's schools, and also to order that the new Martin Luther King middle school open as an integrated school. Justice Department attorneys have been negotiating with the school board since June 13 in an effort to reach an agreement. ANGELA LEAVES BERLIN BERLIN - (NBNS)- Angela Davis left East Berlin after being guest of honor at the 10th World Youth Festival, according to the official news agency ADN. The Juvenile Detention and Correctional Facilities Census findings showed that 44,140 males and 13,099 females were housed in 722 institutions on that date. "The basic idea is to let people have more choice," said Health, Education and Welfare Secretary Caspar Weinberger, one of the two architects of the plan. The plan, which is being refined now, is expected to go to the President this fall. Nixon is likely to send all or most of the plans to Congress for its approval. This plan would parallel former President Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" programs for the poor and disadvantaged. Weinberger admitted that the primary objective of the program will be to increase the freedom of choice and .get more of the money to those who need it, rather than bureaucrats who take most of (See PLAN Page 9A) Annual Budget For Retired Couples In Durham Is Among Lowest Budgets for three levels of living for retired couples in the Durham area rose between 3.0 and 3.6 percent from the autumn of 1971 to the autumn of 1972, according to Brunswick A. Bagdon of the Southeastern Regional Office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Budgets defining three levels of living for a retired couple in the autumn of 1972 provide the basis for comparison. These budgets present the range in living expenses at intermediate, lower and higher levels of living for the urban United States, 39 large metropolitan areas in four regions- South, Northeast, North Central and West-- and Anchorage, Alaska. The autumn 1972 annual retired couple's budget for an intermediate level of living in Durham was $4,666, the lower level $3,287 and the higher level $6,969. Nationally, the three budgets averaged $4,967 for the intermediate, $3,442 for the lower and $7,689 for the higher level-from 4.7 to 10.3 percent higher than Durham.
