CLEANING UP
Now is a good time to clean
up In and around the house to
give everything the sparkle of
sunshine. And it's also a good
time to clean up any fire
hazards. Here are some tips
from The Hartford Insurance
Group's Junior Fire Marshal
program -- things to do and
fire hazards to avoid: .
1. Clear out trash, news
papers, magazines and other
things which have piled up in
cellars, attics and garages dur
ing the past months, These
become a real fire hazard.
Bundle them up and have
them carted away by the
trash collector.

everything in a cool place.
3 Cleanup time also means
using cloths for polishes and

It was the first reported

was captained by a late land

cargo consisting largely of
livestock, poultry and other
endangered species. There
were also seven passengers
aboard consisting mostly of
the relatives of the captain.
PORT PROJECT
A ribbon-cutting ceremo

GARLIC Answer to Vi
The following advice, appear
ing in a national magazine, may
take your breath away, reports
the Health Insurance Institute.
"Hot flashes? Try garlic
"Got the flu, a cold in the
head, or any kind of infection?
Try garlic.
"Mosquitoes bite you? Eat
more garlic
"Blood pressure too high?
rfinitely . . . more garlic"
According to the September
October issue of New Woman:
"Garlic may be biting to the
taste buds and impudent to the
nostrils, but when it comes to
- performing as a broad spectrum
antibiotic "'" "it side effects,
as an anusept.v.. soporific, a
sudorific, as a dilator of the
blood vessels, and countless j
other pharmaceutical functions,
garlic exudes the sweet smell of
succor."
Dr. Albert Schweitzer, for
example, used garlic to success
fully treat typhus and cholera,
says the magazine.
"Aristophanes regarded the
'juice of the garlic as a restorer
of masculine vigor and it has
been widely used as an aphro
disiac," it adds.
The magazine then goes on
to point, out the many medical
findings both old and new hack
ing the validity of garlic cures.
It concludes:
"If there ever was a miracle
practically aU-purpose remedy,
you've got it ... not in your
medicine chest, but in your
vegetable bin."
Despite all its chums, how
ever, the article never once
mentions the value of garlic as
a means of teeping vampires
out of a homethe one fact
about the strong-scented herb
that has never been disputed.
