tA THE CAROLINA HUB Sat., Oct 6, 197$ Celebrates Ulh The Willinf Workers Missicnan Circle of the Mount Zoar Baptist Church (Cheek Id.) celebrated its fourteenth Attnirefsary, Sunday, September 30 at 3 p.m. with Mrs. Jessie Reid presiding. . The program began with music by the Greater Mount Zoar Male Chorus with Lonnie Green at the piano and Lennis Boone soloist. Scripture was read by Mrs. Doris McNeil and prayer by the senior president, Mrs. Viols Philpott. Welcome by Miss Bessie Lyons, the history of our 14 years progress was read by Mrs. A. P. Brown. The Anniversary speaker was presented by the Rev. A H Parker. Rev. T. F. Grisweil, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Creedmoor used as a theme "Serving God with What You Have." He encouraged the Circle to continue to stand together and do service to at mankind. When the storms rises, hold on to God's hand, he will fight your battle. An offering of $265.00 was taken by Mrs. Lillie Branson, Mrs. Addle Mack and Mrs. Katie Hottoway. Rev. Nealie Harvey blessed the offering that we may use it for the up building of God's kingdom. Mrs. Mary Vanhook president of the Circle thanked Rev. Grisweil for his inspiring message also the male chorus for the music they rendered. Mrs. Vanhook thanked the Circle for their service and sacrifice for 14 years. We have seen many dark days and trouble nights, but we united our forces in God's hands, and we are still marching on the upward way. She thanked the. following Circles for their present and donations: The Mount Zoar Senior Circle, Hickory Grove, Union Baptist, Senior Missionary Circle, The Willing Workers Missionary Circle of the Union Baptist Church, Ledge Rock Circle, The Thrifty Saving Club, The Meerick Muar Ladies' Club, CmWn Grove Circle, Calvary Baptist Circle, Mount Calvary Circle, Bahama, The Floral Club or the Oak (Continued on Page 7A) L am or Mm Doug. McMillan Graduate Of Mortuary Col. Douglas McMillan, Jr., of Lumberton, was graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Georgia, in ceremonies held recently at the First Presbyterian Church. Voted class Sgt. of Arms by his classmates, he was also an academic list student, and received a Scholastic Achievement Award. Henderson, former President of Virginia Union University at Richmond, will be held at the John Marshall Hotel in downtown Richmond, on Saturday, October 27th at 7 p.m. The banquet, a black jtjf affair, is being sponsored by tgte uommanaers or. toe Kiie (33rd Degree Masons), of the Virginia Council of Deliberation, Ancient Accepted Scottish Bite Masons, Southern Jurisdiction, Prince Hall affiliated, Illustrious Peer David L. Muckle of Portsmouth, deputy for the state. Tickets for the banquet are selling for $12.50 each. The net proceed from this affair will be donated to Virginia Union University in Richmond. School officials there have been told that they may use the financial donation to strengthen the financial structure of the school as they see fit. The Memorial Fund Banquet is a testimonial in memory of the late Dr. Henderson, who died in 1970. At the time of his death, Dr. Henderson was an outstanding churchman and church official in Richmond, was the Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master of the MWPHGL of Va., F & AM, Inc., chairman of Its education committee, and President of VUU In KHirrioml Jl -. Past Grand Master J. Henry Evans, Jr.. of Emporia, who is serving as the overall chairman for the sales of tickets in the state, said that he is hoping to sell 1500 tickets to this black tie affair. He has appointed area chairmen to assist him in this effort. But it seems to me it's time to discuss it again. Because, as always, it's time to do some thing about it. !m talking about the Haves and the Have-nots. The Blacks who have it made. And the Blacks who haven't. Yet. And that's an important word. Yet. Simply because, someday, we'll see more of us who have, than have-not. We've all been patient for a long time, waiting for that better day. But let's all stop for a moment and think. For many of us, that better day has dawned. It's here. But I wonder, just how many of us are really handling the added responsibilities of being there? MRS. BROOKS Gwen Brooks To Appear at N. C. Central The A.E. Student Union will present Gwendolyn Brooks, pulitzer prize winning poet on Wednesday, October 10, at 8 p.m. in the Union Lounge. She is a superb reader of her own poetry-and that of contemporary poets. She writes of crucial experiences, powerful emotions, sufferings, passions, and the "stuff of human fate in general". Her poetry has been called a bridge between the quiet and the vibrant racial protest of today. i Bennett College will host over 100 high school students on October & - 6. The young ladies, representing 20 states will be given a first hand opportunity to witness and participate in on-going campus activities.
