Dr. Morsell expressed this
view in a statement tdtmmfitt
NAACP headquarters here
following announcement of the
resignation of Vice President
Agnew on Oct. 10. The text of
the statement follows:
The resignation of Spiro T.
Agnew as Vice President of the
United States is not only
surprising in light of his earlier
declarations that he would not
consider such a move; it is also,
in any meaningful way,
unprecedented in the history
of our nation. But above and
beyond all this it it a tragic
revelation of the deep malaise
which envelops this country.
Here is a man, the son of a
Greek immigrant, who
achieved distinction in this
country, beginning as a liberal
and ending up as an arch
conservative-a truly Horatio
Alger epic. Meanwhile, both as
an obstensible liberal and as a
conservative, he was involved
in the dubious financial
dealings of any non-ideological
ward heeler, evading taxes and,
allegedly, accepting political
graft. Meanwhile, also, he was
touring the country castigating
civil rights leaders, restless
students and inquiring news
media people. And above all,
he was constantly preaching
morality while being involved,

This particular Walk-A-Thon
will be called a "Happiness

states that a "Happiness Walk"
is an ideal way for young
people, or anyone else, to be
involved in a Worthwhile civic

What appeals to young
