FEBRUARY 14. 1978 ; Jlf.ir.lY LIGGIU5 KEfUm o;h .r w. r 0 M : y- Meat Band Far Abovo Expectation CAL BRANDON Blind Recording Star Gets Down Heavy At Club Baby Grand Cal Brandon, born just a few miles from Durham in Roxboro, has traveled all over the country with Clarence Carter, was out on his own last Friday night at Club Baby Grand where the talent is now being showcased by Jimmy Uggins, Chief Executive for Duplex Black Gold Music Program and Duplex National Black Record Distributors. DNBRD is looking for the best bands and entertainment shows for the Black Gold Music Program. Cal Brandon was terrific. He came on with the number one tune in the country, : Reached The Turning Point in My Life' that had the house jumping. Cal came off the stage, called for two women volunteers and did the bump with them both. Then came imitations of Al Green, Joe Simon, Clarence Carter and called himself up to testify and he sang his song, 'Kept on Smiling". Fans from Roxboro were down front as Cal Brandon sold himself. He's on the way. Little Wink, creator of the new dance, Peacock, will sing his song and do his own thing. He will dance awhile Friday, February 20 when the big recording attraction, the 25th Century Band and Revue comes to the Club Baby Grand. You liave heard him sing on the radio - now vou can seehim in person the sMtieFflimgiftg1 "anil dancing star, Little Wink. See him dance the Peacock steps' from the 25th Century Band and Revue. The band so hot until they named it HEAT, lived up to the name at the first showing in the popular local night spot, Dub Baby Grand on Saturday, Feb. 7. The two vocalists, Larry Sherrel and Jackie Torrence, proved to be nothing but professionals. The Band has a guitar man who is something else. The tenor man was good -the bass man worked on his sax -the organman was good and the drummer was nothing but pure dynamite. If you missed Heat, you missed a treat. Don't miss that big Black Gold Music Show coming to to the Baby Grand on Friday, February 20, the 25th Century Band and Revue. ' Nothing is Better For Me,' says Baby Speight, title of the hit record with the 25th Century Band. CLERICAL POSITION TrafficBilling Department.
