Mary Smith, Mrs. Annie Magee and Bobby Rogers from relatives and friends. The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority held its regular meeting Saturday past at Eddie's P and C on Rosemary Street with Soror Gladys Hollingsworth presiding. Various reports were discussed and accepted.. Delegates were named to the state and regional meetings. Final plans and announcements wereSnade for the 1979 Blue Revue which will be held at FSU Women's Gymnasium at ?:15 on March 3. Soror Edythe George thanked the following hostesses: Sorors Mary R. Wilkerson, Ethel Whitted and Carolyn Walker. During such time, all who attended feasted and fellow shipped. Fayetteville received approximately 10 inches of snow during the snow storm. About 100 conventioneers were stranded at the Bordeaux Convention Center. The wedding of Ethelind Smith Simmons and Norman L. Stroud of Sanford took place February 10 at 4 pjn, at Johnsonville A.M.E. Zion Church. Rt. Rev. W.A. Hilliard, bishop of the Central North Carolina Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church officiated at the private family wedding. Assisting was Dr. H.E. Haggler of Durham. Other participants included Mrs. Inez Carver, Mrs. Lois Butler, Dr. Rudolph Smith, Kelvin Smith, Eurydice W. Smith, Raenell Williams, Roy Stroud Jr. Raymond and Freeman Stoud. A buffet dinner was given the mother and relatives of the bride-groom in Sanford. The bride received her bachelors degree from Fayetteville State University and a Masters degree from Columbia University in New York. She served in the Cumberland County Schools and is now director of Christian Education for the Fayetteville district. The bridggroom received his bachelors degree from Livingstone College and a masters degree from A&T State University in Greensboro. He did post graduate, work at Yale University and the University of Indiana. He is pastor of Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Erwin. Fayetteville State Universty's Department of Music presented the FSU Jazz Ensemble in a concert Sunday evening in the J.W. Seabrook Auditorium The ensemble is directed by E. Diane Lyle and consists of 20 students from geographical locations in the South, North and Mid-West, Selections include arrngements from such musicians as Chick Corea, John Coltrane. Malachi Sharpe, Lee David Legette, Ralph McDonald, Carole King and Eddie Heywood. . . Fayetteville Technical Institute is offering two' speical teit week sewing classes beginning the week of Feb. 18 from 9:30-12 noon. The young adult choir of the Second Baptist Church, 522 Old Wilmington Road, celebrated its anniversary Sunday past. The Evans Metropolitan A.M.E. North Carolina will gather for the Third Annual meeting of the North Caro lina Black Women's Political Caucus. The meet ing is scheduled for Saturday, . March 17 at Shaw University in Raleigh. It is a . one day conference and will open at 8 a jmi with registra tion 'to continue throughout the day with a plenary session and workshops. Emphasis at this year's affair will be placed on the single most important issue facing black women today, employment, Sur veys have shown that the black female in the adult working force earns less than any other group even as the percentage of black female heads of house holds increases. The conference is designed to attract not only women who are unemployed but also' women who are seek ing change or upward mobility . in their present jobs. r Workshops . will be . di vided into two major headings, the first of which is getting a job. This topic will hold special appeal for displaced x .homemakers who have been out of the job market for many year. . Assistance will be given in planning careers and applying for, educa tional grants. The work shop will also . explore the uses and availability of employment services, Techni cal ' skills such as . writing resumes and completing applications will be taught. The participants will then discuss how to look for a job and re-entering the job market. ' The second general work shop heading is designed to aid a women after she has gotten the . job. 'Many women face 'situations in "which they are required to do the same work as men but ' do not receive equal pay. Job discrimination is an area which hits black women hard because they are often seen as double " minorities. :. The workshops under :i ; this, headings will stress i a woman's legal rights with"; respect to discrimination. In addition, they will in clude information on com pensation ., for injuries re ceived on the job, unem ployment insurance and minimum . wage require ments. ' The plenary session will consist mainly of the election of state wide of ficers and a steering com mittee. A highlight of the affair will be the luncheon featuring Ms. Barbara Size more, one of the country's leadings black educators.
