Jerry Thomas, an eighth grader at Edgewood Middle School, is the Fayetteville City champion in the annual Na tional Spelling Bee Contest sponsored by the Charlotte Ob server. New officers have- been elected for 1979-80 by the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Youth Council. Bobby Bosworth of E.E. Smith High School serves as president of the council. 'The Democratic Women's Club of Cumberland County met Tuesday past at 7:30 p.m. in the old county court house. Mayor Beth Finch was in charge of the program. Ten area churches observed a joint Good Friaday service "The Seven Last Words," at Smith Chapel on Boundary Lance sponsored by the Fayetteville Cumberland Ministerial Council.
