AME ZION CHURCH BISHOPS VIST FAYETTEVILLE - The Board of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church met in historic Fayetteville April 4:6, at the Ramada Inn in its spring session to complete plans for the 1980 General Conference which will meet in Greensboro, N.C. May 1980. The Board of Bishops was entertained by the host pastor Dr. L.A. Miller, the Presiding Elders Council and the Fayetteville District. That was the first time in the history of Evans Metropolitan Church that a Board of Bishops visited Fayetteville and Evans Church. The Board of Bishops also moved to the first unit of the Church where the founder of the church is interred and placed flowers on his tomb in memory of Father Henry Evans who founded Evans Metropolitan Chruch in 1801, the first Methodist Churc in Fayetteville and the second oldest AME Zion Church in the South and the third oldest AME Zion Church in the world. The Board of Bishops also placed flowers on the tomb of the founder of Black Masonary in North Carolina Bishop J.W. Hood.
