REV. HALLIE REEVES TO BE HONORED
Rev. Hallie Lawson Reeves will be honored in an Appre
ciation Service, Friday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Fisher Me
morial United Holy Church. The service is being sponsored
by the Young People's Holy Association and the Youth in
Action Club of Fisher Memorial U. H. Church. It is oc
casioned by her acceptance of a Chaplaincy at St. Eliza
beth's Hospital in Washington, D. C.
Rev. Reeves is a. native of Durham, a product of the
Durham City Schools and a graduate of North Carolina
Central University. She is a former teacher of music in
the Durham City Schools and for many years has been a
private teacher of piano.
Rev. Reeves, a 1978 graduate of the Duke University
School of Divinity, was ordained August 10 by the Western
North Carolina District of the United Holy Church.
She is the mother ot two daughters, Rosa and Princess.
ANNUAL COLLEGE DAY PROGRAM AT ST. MARK
The Young Adult Department of St. Mark A. M. E.
Zion Church is sponsoring its Annual College Day Program,
Sunday, April 29 at the 11 a.m. service. The speaker for
the occasion will be Rev. Gregory Davis, former black Cam
pus minister at Duke University.
All afea students are invited to worship. The Rev. H.
E. Haggler, Sr. is the pastor. A fellowship hour Will follow
the service.

The Union Meeting of the New Hope Baptist Association
will be held Sunday, April 29 at Shiloh Baptist Church in
Morrisville. The Rev. Johnny Leak is the host pastor. The
theme for the meeting is: The Program of the General
State Baptist Convention of N. C. The President is Rev. T.
J. Foster and Deacon Clifton Stone is the secretary.

SENIOR CITIZENS' DAY AT NEW HOPE
New Hope Baptist Church, Chatham County will honor
its Senior Citizens on Sunday, April 29 at- 4 pjm. Rev.
Curtis Carrington of New Calvary Baptist Church, Greens
boro and his Young Adult Choir will be the guest. New
Hope is fortunate to have Senior Citizens as old as or as
young as 94 years old. Near the end of the program, Senior
Citizens will be allowed to recite poems, sing songs or make
comments. Dinner will be served to allow the Senior Citi
zens to fellowship together.' The public is invited.

Reverend McCown is a graduate of Virginia Seminary
and College of Lynchburg, Virginia and received the Master
of Divinity from Virginia Union University, Richmond,
Virginia. He is very active in religious and civic activities.
He is married and the father of three children.
Mrs. Velma S. Wilson is servicing as Chairperson for
Women's Day. A special Women's Day Chorus will render
the music. The Rev. Percy L High is pastor.

UNITED GOSPEL SINGERS CELEBRATE FIFTH
ANIVERSARY
The United Gospel Singers of Raleigh celebrated their
fifth anniversary recently at the Raleigh Safety Club.
The two day celebration was observed with a gospel sing,
of more than fifty-two singing groups from the Raleigh
Durham area and Eastern North Carolina. Special guests
at the celebration were the J. W. Ensemble of Brooklyn,
N. Y. and the Angelic Gospel Singers of Souther Hill. Va.
The United Gospel Singers is composed of Raleigh
Durham area residents.

Rev. James E. Barnett of Charlotte will be the featured

gospel is involved in the human rights struggle. He is con
cerned and gives of himself for the betterment of others.
Rev. Barnett has walked on two occasions from Char
lotte to Raleigh in support of the Wilmington 10 and the
Charlotte 3. .
