ll-TIIE CAROLINA TIMES SAT., MAY 5. 1979 CHURCH WOMEN UNITED OBSERVES MAY FELLOWSHIP DAY 1979 is observed as the International Year of the Child. It is an occasion to re-affirm, not only by words alone, but by deeds, that the well-being of today's children is of concern to Church Women. Friday, May 4 will be observed as' May Fellowship Day at Lakeview Baptist Church, 341 1 Dearborn Drive. Mrs. June Quarfordt is the President. The 10:30 a.m. program will have as its theme: "Our Children: Our Promise." During the service, the Fellowship of the Least Coin will be observed. Mrs. Linda Heaslet, Assis tant to the Minister of Pilgrim United Church of Christ, will share information on "Child Abuse". A Fellowship Hour will be held immediately following the service. Each person is asked to bring a Sack Lunch. All Church Women of all denominations are invited to attend and bring a friend. REVIVAL AT UNION BAPTIST CHURCH Spring revival services will begin Monday, May 7 at Union Baptist Church, 904 North Roxboro St. The Reverend Dr. Percy L. High will be the speaker for the , week Reverend High is the minister at Mount Vernon Bap tist Church. He is a native North Carolinian, an alum nus of Shaw University, Virginia Union University and earned the doctorate of ministry from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, He has done additional study at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He has erved as pastor in Virginia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. He has also served as an instructor in high schools, colleges and a university in those same states. , . Dr. High has served as president of the Durham Branch of the NAACP and now holds responsible posi tions in the General Baptist Convention of North Carolina and the Progressive National Baptist Conven tion. Dr" High is married and the father of one daughter. Dr. Grady D. Davis is the minister of Union Baptist Church. The public is invited to attend. CHURCH GIFTS DURING VOLUNTEER WEEK . Windfall gifts of $782 apiece during Volunteer Week gratified the five congregations in Walltown: Mount Olive AME Zion Church, North Side Baptist Churchy St. James Baptist Church, St. John Baptist Church and Walltown Holiness Church. 4 f The gifts represent the male and redistribution within the neighborhood of property derived from the neighborhood since the 1940s' for service to local children by the Walltown Charitable Community Center, Incorporated.
