Following the ser vice, a delicious breakfast was enjoyed at the church. Members then met at the home of Ms. Hazeline Remp son for fellowship. Members are: Mmes. WINNERS NAMED IN QUEEN-KING CONTEST Misses Shonta Fox (first) and Shanette Walker (second) were named 'queens and Carlos McCorvey was named 'king' for raising the largest amounts of money in the annual effort staged for the benefit of the Hour of Deliverance radio program heard each Sunday morning on WSRC. They each received a trophy. Other contestants this year were Misses Shirley Johnson, Rowena Bass, Amey Wilson, Yolanda Hall, Juanita Morris; and Elijah Henry", Jr. They will each receive a donation for participating. The affair was held at the Durham Civic Center, sponsored by Rev. and Mrs. Perry Fox. THE THRIFTY SAVING CLUB - S 'The Thrifty Saving Club has had a series of winter meetings. One of the biggest events was opening of the "Spring Gate" by visiting the nation's capitol Washington, D.C. including many of the historic sites. This week's meeting was held with Mrs. Luna J. Holman celebrating her birthday. After Mrs., Holman received her birthday gifts, members shared gifts with their "Secret Pals" which was an exciting and happy oc casion. Mrs.. Holman was reelected as Mother of jhe Yean ' The hostess served a delicious dinner . The next meeting will be with Mrs. Marie Harris to celebrate her birthday. FLORAL CLUB ANNIVERSARY In celebrating its "100 Years of Christian Progress", the New Bethel Baptist Church joined in to celebrate the church Floral Club's Anniversary on Sunday afternoon, May 6. . . , The guest speaker was Mrs. Helen W. Daniel of Durham. The sub-theme for May is "The Flowering Truth" and Mrs. Daniel used as a topic, "Love and Unity on a Stem in the Garden of the King". Lipscomb, presided. After the club song, Mrs. Faucette, leader of devo tions, offered prayer. Each member recited a quotation. The business session followed. ' ' Business over, Mrs. Julia Harris, a board member of the Coordinating Council for Senior Citizens, expressed gratitude that the club had taken a sustaining member ship in the Council, and solicited individual member ships as well. Several ladies were already members, and a number of others paid their joining fees then. Mrs. Lyda Merrick, one of the Mothers of the Year chosen by the Merchants Association, told of having just attended a lovely dinner honoring the Mothers of the Year. LOCAL HEROIN WINS STATE CONTEST On Sunday, April 29 at O'Briant Chapel Church in Chapel Hill, Heroine Annie C. Gore of Durham was the winner over five other courts to reign as Queen of the Heroines of Jericho. She will represent the state of North Carolina at the General Conference of Grand Court which will be held in Detroit, Michigan on July 8. Heroine Gore is the wife of Companion Liston L. Gore, Sr., and the mother of five children.
