Columbia St. at 7:30 PM on June 25, 1979 for the purpose of con sidering a project for which financial assistance is being sought from the United States Department of Transpor tation, pursuant to the Surface Transportation Act of 197S, generally described as follows: A. Description of Project To provide funding for the operation of a public transport aion system which present operates nine bus routes, demand responsive shared-ride taxi service, and elderly and handicapped service. This public transportation system will be operated in the Chapel HillCarrboro area. 3. The project will provide funds which equal 50e of the net cause of the transit system's opration. For the period October 1, 1979 through September 30, 1980, this funding will be $471,883. The remaining 50 of the net cost of service will be provided by Chapel Hill Transit system's existing revenue sources. B. Relocation No persons, families or businesses will be displaced by this project. C. Environmental It is anticipated that the above project will have no adverse environmental impact on the Chapel Hill area. D. Comprehensive Planning The project described above is In conformance with the comprehensive Land Use Plan, the 5-year Capital Improvement Program, and transportation planning for the Chapel Hill area, This project is cur rently being reviewed by the Statewide and Regional A-95 clearinghouse. Project 1-404(5X268) Durham Orange Counties The above public hearing will be held on June 5, 1979. at 7:30 p.m. in the Rogers-Herr Junior High School Auditorim. hearing is to allow citizen input into the design process or the North Carolina Depart ment of Transportation. . , The hearing will consist of an explanation of the proposed design, right-of-way requirements and procedures, relocation advisory assistance and State Federal relationship. The hearing will be open to those present for statements, questions, comments andor submit tal of material pertaining to the proposed design. Additional material may be submitted for a period of ten days from the date of the hearing to Mr. George E. Wells, P.E., Manager of Highway Design, N.C. Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, P.O. Box 25201, Raleigh, N.C. 27611. The proposed design for 1-40 consists of a four lane divided freeway. The right-of-way will be variable in width with full control of access. Egress and Ingress will be by the following interchanges: 1-85. SR 1009. SR 1723, NC 86, US 15-501, NG 54, NC 751, SR 1118, NC 55, North South Freeway. Other major routes will be separated without contact or relocated to stay in service. The approved location is alternate IB revised. The NC 54 connector consists of adding two lanes to the existing two lanes with a 30 foot grassed median. The right-of-way will be that needed for this type section and will be open access'. The connector will bee approximately 1.5 miles in length.
