DR. ADA FISHER TO SPEAK AT .
WHITE ROCK
Dr. Ada Markka Fisher, Chief Medical Officer,
Plain View Health Center, Rose Hill, and the
daughter of Mrs. Ada V. Fisher and the late former
pastor. Dr. Miles Mark Fisher, will speak at White
Rock Baptist Church, Sunday, October 28 at 6 p.m.
for the Ushers Program celebrating the church's
113th Anniversary.
Dr. Fisher is a graudate of the University of North
Carolina, Greensboro (B.A.); and the university of
Wisconsin Medical School, Madison, Wisconsin
(M.D.). She has done post doctoral training as a
Family Medicine Resident with the Family Medicine
Program, an affiliate of the University of Rochester
and Highland Hospital, Rochester, N. Y. She is
board certified in family medicine as a Diplomate of
the American Academy of Family Practice and is
licensed in New York State and North Carolina. In
the area of teaching, she has served as consultant,
counselor and teacher in health related courses at
Madison High School, Rochester; General Medical
Clerkships for third and fourth year medical students
at the University of Rochester; and Clinical Instruc
tor, Department of Family Medicine afrthe Universi
ty of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Recipient of many honors and awards, she was
chosen University of North Carolina "Outstanding
Senior"; "The Outstanding Legislator", 1970 Sum
mer Fellowship frpm the University of Wisconsin
Family Medicine Program for research study;
biographical inclusion in the National student
Register; Duke Endowment Fellowship Grant for
Clinical Externship in Primary Care at Lincoln Com
munity Health Center; featured on the cover of The
New Physician magazine with an article, "Diary of a
Summer Extern"; Student National Medication
Association Achievement Award for contributions to
minority medical education and community service;
Community Physician Award from the UNC-Chapel
Hill Student National Medical Association; and
nominated as an Outstanding Young Woman in
American for 1979 and as a "Glamor" Outstanding
Young Woman for 1980.
She has served as editor of The Holler, a weekly
newspaper (Family Medicine Unit) at the University
of Rochester; is a columnist lot The Carolina Times;
and has published' several articles and written six
books on minority medical education and related
matters.
She served on the subcommittee NAACP and
Duplin County Competency Testing; Greenevers
Housing Authority; and various Greenevers planning
committees. , ,

MEN'S DAY AT SAINT MARK
The Men of Saint Mark A.M.E. Zion Church will
observe their annual Men's Day, Sunday, October
28. The theme for thd day is: Men United to
Strengthen The Christian Family.
Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m. with the Morning
Worship Service beginning at 10:55 a.m.
- Dr. Joseph B. Bethea, a native of Dillon, S. C.,'
will be the morning service speaker. He is District
Superintendent, The Rockingham District North
Carolina Conference, The United Methodist Church.
He is a doctoral graduate of the Gammon
Theological Seminary arid the Interdenominational
Theological Center, Atlanta. Ga.
At the 6 p.m. evening service. Rev. Joseph
Johnson, pastor, Soldiets Memorial A.M.E. Zion
Church, Salisbury, will be the speaker. .

Men's Day Choir.

REV. E. J. VAUGHAN TO SPEAK
AT OAK GROVE
Rev. E. J. Vaughan of Franklin, Va., will be the
speaker at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 801 -Colfax
St., Sunday, October 28 at 11 a.m.
Rev. Z. D. Harris, pastor, of Oak Grove, will be
celebrating his 20th Anniversary at the church.
Rev. Vaughan was ordained into the ministry in
1936. He has pastored nine churches. He is now the
pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church, Boykins, Va.
He is married to the former Annie Stephens. They
are the parents of four daughters.
BEN RUFFIN TO SPEAK AT NEW BETHEL
Ben Ruffin, Special Assistant to the Governor of
North Carolina will be the guest speaker at New
Bethel Baptist Church, Sunday, October 28 at 4 p.m.
Ruffin, a native of Durham, received his B. S.
degree from North Carolina Central Universith and'
his master's degree in Social Work from the Universi
ty of North Carolina School of Social Work. He has
also attended Georgetown University and Michigan
State University.
Ruffin is a member and a trustee of Morehead
Avenue Baptist Church. He is married to the former
Avon Long and they are the parents of April Ruffin.
He serves also as a consultant to the Volunteer in Ser
vice to America, Peace Corps, Shaw University,
Raleigh.
HOMECOMING AT LAKEVIEW
Lakeview Baptist Church, 2517 Dearborn Drive,
will celebrate Homecoming, Sunday, October 28 at
1 1 a.m. Rev, John L. Monroe, associate pastor of
