Those funds are for education and the humanity and saving of souls Ms. Kathryn Crump, led Band No. One, which raised $2,137. Ms. Crump won the trip to the World General Conference in Dallas, Texas in April by raising $1,000. There were 43 persons who were Centurions for 1979. Morris McQuaig is the leader of the Lay Activity Department. Marvin McClain, Jr. and Howard Reid are assistants. Ms. Peggy Lyde is the secretary and Ms. Helen Mason, assistant secretary. IS - " MS. Bishop L. E. Philpot, pastor, will conduct the Ordination Service. Fields, a life-long member of Cox Memorial, is one of a family of ardent church workers. His father was a deacon and is now retired. HOWARD LEK TO SPEAK IN SALISBURY SALISBURY Howard Lee, Secretary of Human Resources Department for North Carolina, will be the Martin Luther King Birthday speaker at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 413 N. Church St., Sunday, January 13 at 3 p.m. Humanitarian Awards will be presented to Con gressman William Hefner of the Eighth Congressional District, co-sponsor of the National M. L. King'Birth day in Congress. Awards will also be 'presented to Albert Stout, wounded SBI Agent; Garland Gaither, lone time employee of the Salisbury Post Newspaper; and i ohnson, a Vice-President of the General Bap tist Si: Convention of North Carolina and a thirty year teacher in Rowan County. Mayor Don Weinhold has proclaimed January 13 as Martin Luther King Day in Salisbury and is programm ed to read the same. Haywood Starling, Director, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, will ap pear along with other state officials and religious leaders. Ms. Phylis Partee of the Ba-Lu Choir will direct the singing group and Dr. F. George Shipman, president of L ivingstone College will present awards. S. R. Johnson, Jr., minister at Mount Zion, is the local chairman of the Birthday Committee. ALL-DAY PROGRAM AT MT. ZION APEX An All-Day Program, beginning at 10 a.m. will be held at Mount xion Baptist Church, Apex, Sunday, January 6. CITY-WIDE INTERDENOMINATIONAL YOUTH PRE-CITY-WIDE REVIVAL TO BE HELD AT WHITE ROCK The City Wide Interdenominational Youth Pre-City, Wide Revival Night will be held at White Rock Baptist Church, 3400 Fayetteville St., Sunday, January 6 at 6 p.m. Rev. Ronald Swain, University Preacher and Campus Minister, Shaw University, Raleigh, will be preaching. Music will be rendered by the Junior Chorus of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church. The West Durham and New Bethel Youth Ushers will be ushering. This program is sponsored by the Pastor's Youth Class of White Rock Baptist Church. Leonzo D. Interment will be in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Snipes was a public school teacher and super visor in the Orange Coun'y Schools for eighteen yeais and in the Chapel Hill City Schools for twenty years. She retired in 1968. A member of Saint Paul AME Church for all of her life in Chapel Hill, she was active in all facets of church endeavors, having been the originator of the Youth Choir. She attended Atlanta University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia; North Carolina Cen tral University with a Master of Arts degree; and had done extensive work toward the Ph.D. degree at Yale Univer sity.
