Norfolk State leads in total defense having allowed 133 yards per game. They are second in rushing defense at 72.3 behind St. Paul's College. Sammy Knight got FAMU going in the initial quarter when he went all the way with a 57-yard punt return In the second quarter flanker Bobby Knight caught a 74-yard touchdown bomb from Nate Koonce, and later scored on a five-yard run. Vince Coleman added a 31-yard field goal in that period. Archie Jones cap ped the scoring with a fourteen yard burst in the third stanza. Albany's on ly score was a safety in the first period. On Saturday, South Carolina State beat con ference rival N.C. A&T 24-9, Bethune-Cookman and Howard fought to a 13-13 tie in another con ference match-up, and Delaware State got by University of the District of Columbia 8-6. N.C. A&T out played S.C. State for most of the first half in New Jersey's Giant Stadium, but could only muster a field goal. Late in that half, A&T fumbled and lost a punt n its own 33. Five plays .ater Bill Mugin passed ten yards to Ed Lee for a score, and the Bulldogs took a 7-3 halftime advan-" tage. S.C. State took it's first possession of the se cond half and marched 75 yards for a score, capped by Chris Ragland's eight yard run at the 8:00 minute mark. A&T fumbl ed on its next series and Prince Phillips found Marion Brown for a 27-yard score only sixteen seconds after the Ragland touchdown, and they went up 21-). S.C. State got a 21 -yard field goal from Al Gardner in the final period before the Aggies scored with 4:51 left to play. A&T has lost to S.C. State four straight limes. In Washington, Kenny McMillan passed seven yards to Darryl Crane and Wilford Morgan Booted a twenty-yard field goal, as Bethune-Cookman took a 10-0 halftime lead over Howard. The Bison answered in the third on a Ronald Wilson one-yard score and a Howard Ward 38-yard field goal. In the fourth, Morgan was good on another twenty-yarder and set the stage for an ex citing finish, the homestanders engineered a long drive, and Ward kicked a 22-yard field goal with time running out. Delaware Stale record ed a safely in the first quarter, and Sam Warren threw 27 yards io Clarence Weathers in the second, as the Hornets held UDC 8-0 until midway in the final period, when the visitors scored on a one-yard touchdown pass.
