The game was fast pac
ed with good body check
ing, the crowd was en
thusiastic and they
shouted encouragement
while they sipped on beer
and hot chocolate.
Dru Sanders, a UNC
history major, said "I
came to these matches
often last year." Sanders
says that Carolina player
Ken Mountcastle is his
roommate and he comes
to watch him play.
Sanders further stated,
that Duke and Carolina
usually field the best
teams and most of their
matches are usually well
played and close.
A Carolina co-ed in
formed me that last year
UNC beat Duke four
times only to lose to the
Devils in the post season
tournament.
In this game Duke took
an early lead only to see
UNC tie it up. While the
players raced up and down
the ice, the partisans who
stood through out the con
test shouted "let's go
Duke!," "C'mon
Carolina," "Do it Moun
ty!," and loud 'oh's' and
'ah's accompanied body
checks and shots on goal.
Duke scored the winn
ing goal in the last 1:11 to
win 3-2 and even though it
was only an exhibition
, "Go to Hell Duke" or
"Go, to Hell Carolina"
could be heard.
A schedule of this year 's
league games can be ob
tained at the Daniel Boone
Ice Rink. Admission is $2
for adults and $1 for
students with I.D. Even
for a hockey novice such
as myself, it's well worth
;the money.
