During the compeiti tion, students vied in a scries of mock trials to determine who would be invited to the national finals- - to be held in Houston, Texas in late March. Ms. Glennca Faison, a third year law student at NCCU and one of the coordinators of the com petition, f said "Students like the opportunity to compete against one another. Its one thing when you learn in the classroom, but its a whole different ballgame when you have to put those things into practice in a real life situation. The people who have par ticipated in this competi tion will be practicing lawyers in a matter of months and they need this type of preparation." Each of the teams tried a criminal case before a North Carolina, were sup plied by the North Carolina . Alumni Association. j "This has been one of the,best experiences that I have had during my three years of law school," said Michael Floyd, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., . who teamed with another stu dent from Philadelphia, Raymond. Jacobs. I was 'nervous when the com-, petition began, but as things got rollingthe but terflies left my Atpmach and I knew that 'I had to perform to the best of my abilities." Professor Ronald Belfon, who worked yvith instructors from each of the other schools par ticipating in the competi tion, said that all of the schools did well. "The most diffficult part bf any type of com petition like this is picking a winner. All of the teams came well prepared. Black History C q m m i tie e Seeking Old Photographs Old and historical photographs and artifacts of Durham's black com munity are being solicited from Durham -County residents by the Black History Committee of the Durham County Centen nial Commission. The photographs and artifacts will be used to develop an exhibit that will be displayed during the county's centennial observance, April 26-May 2: The proposed exhibit would focus on various aspects of life in Durham's black com munity and would delude such subjects as Durham County's early years, business, education, sports and recreation, and health and the profes-. sions.
