Lynch officiated. , Musicians were Fred Mason, organist; Dr. Charles Gilchrist, pianist, Miss Rosetta Breeze and Terry Oates, soloists. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a bridal gown of white Alencon lace and chiffonitte fashioned with an empire waist, long lace sleeves trimmed with seed pearls and paillettes. The full skirt and cathedral train were tf immed at the deep hem with satin. The full length veil of illusion and 'Vsatin".artrlmmto with Alencon lace, pearls and sequins. She carried a bouquet of a cascade of red roses, miniature car nations centered with an orchid corsage, baby's breath and English Ivy. Miss Cheryl L. Stewart was maid of honor and Mrs. Carol Eaglin Alston was matron of honor. Both are of Durham. Bridesmaids were Miss Maritz Daly, Bronx, N.Y.; Miss Bernetta Gregory, Columbia, Md.; Miss Ava Haskins, Durham; Misses Vera and Valerie Mosley, Philadelphia, Pa.; and Miss Leatrice Sherann Terry, Claremont, Calif. A reception followed the ceremony in the church Fellowship Hall, i Mrs. Flintall Entertains Price St. Neighborhood Club Price Street Neighborhood Club met Friday, February 13, at the home of . Mrs. E.B. Flintall, 613 Price Street. A short devotion was held and Miss Annie Dunnigan gave a talk of brotherly love. The presided presided over the business session dur ing which all reports were heard and approved. After dinner, the club sang '.'Happy Birthday" to the hostess. Mrs. Hazel McBroom won the Valentine gift. Present were Mmes. The March meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Lucy Holloway. 1 Phi Beta Sigma Members Celebrate Founders' Day Gamma Delta Sigma, local chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, observed its sixty-seventh annual Founders' Day celebration with a reiteration of their goals and programs as a f3art of the Black Heritage of the well known organization, February 14-15 at the home of Sedrick Cuthbertson. Family members shared in the observance by their presence at the social hour following the program and with their attendance at the worship services held at St. Joseph's AME Church. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity was founded January 9, 1914 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Their thrust has been emphasis on bigger and better business with special Black Business awareness as a means of economic betterment. Educa tion, political and social action by cooperative efforts of all groups have been emphasized through the Pan Hellenic organization, The Pan-Hellenic organization consists of Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi as well as sorority groups of Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Sigma Gamma Rho. These groups use their collective efforts along with all other groups to improve the quality of life for all Americans and especially black Americans with their emphases on services to all people. Phi Beta Sigma maintains its national headquarters at 145 Kennedy Street, NW, Washington, D.C. It is from these offices that many programs emanate to assist all local chapters in fulfilling their stated goals and pur poses. Jaspar Harris serves as local president of Gamma Delta Sigma Chapter. All local Sigmas from Durham and Chapel Hill are invited to attend meetings which are held the second Saturday of each month at the home of Sedrick Cuthbertson, Dayton Street, at 7:30 p.m. Bull City Elks Activities Miss Jennifer Smith Bride of Wm. Wyatt Pine Grove Baptist Church in Creedmoor was the setting Saturday after noon, February 14, for the wedding of Miss Jennifer Rene Smith of New Orleans, Louisiana to William Harry Wyatt of Detroit, Michigan. The Rev. Aloysius High was the officiating minister. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keaston Smith, 1305 Sedgefield Street, Durham. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wyatt of Inkster, Michigan. Musicians were Edward N. Riddick, organist; Joe L. Green, Ms. Evelyn Suitt and Ms. Yvonne Suitt, soloists. The bride, given in mar riage by her father, wore an ivory peau de sOie gown with Queen Anne neckline, bodice and long fitted sleeves, em broidered with re embroidered Alencon lace. The sweeping cathedral train and the hem of the skirt were also trimmed in lace. The back of the train featured Alen con lace appliques ac cented with seed pearls. The veil was attached to a camelot cap. She carried flowers of miniature burgundy silk camellias, white baby's breath and . Boston fern with pink rib bon. Mrs. Patricia Smith Brown of Columbus, Ohio, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Wanda Wood-Knox, Cleveland, Ohio and Ms. Rita L. Watts, Chicago, Illinois, friends of the bride, the Downtowner Motor Inn in Durham following the wedding. The bride is a graduate of Durham High School and North Carolina Cen tral University where she. earned her bachelor's and master's degrees and at tended Cleveland State University. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and is employed vntU Westinghouse Learning Corporation as a salesservice represen tative. The couple will live in Columbia. f J Q. i til Wit ,k I tit Jfmjsv Mrs. Demitri Gene Stewart NCCU To Offer Summer Workshops In Austria North Carolina Central University has announced plans to co-sponsor three summer workshops in Salzburg, Austria, for music teachers, advanced piano students, music education students, and producers of college, high school, and community musical theater and opera. Dr. Lilian Pruett, pro fessor of music at North Carolina Central Universtiy, will serve as academic director of the. three International Music Workshops in Salzburg and the International Summer Academy Mozarteum. A piano, master class in Chopin Interpretation will be taught by Adam Harasievics, an interna tionally renowned concert artist. The course will concentrate on the. major works from the Chopin repertoire, , and will be open to music teachers and advanced piano students. Public recitals will be scheduled, some to be recorded by ORF, the training and seeks to develop a strong sense of rhythm. It has been widely adopted for use in elemen tary school systems throughi the United States and Europe. The Orff Schulwerk workshop will' include at public perfor mance of a cantata or Children's Mass. Professor Heinz Burno Gall.ee of the Mozarteum 's Opera Department will lead a workshop on "State Design, Sets, and Costumes for Opera and Musical Productions in School and Amateur Theaters." Participants will deal with theoretical and practical aspects of stage design and. will move from rough sketches for sets to the construction of full-scale experimental sets.
