Scholarships
The Alpha Zeta Omega
hltpter of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Inc., has
nominated Miss Andrea
Annette Adams to com
pete for the 1981 Domestic
Travel Tour Grant.
Miss Adams' essay,
"We Are A Family", will
be judged in national com
petition. The recipients of
this grant participate in a
two-week tour originating
in Chicago, Illinois, mov
ing on to other places of
interest , in American
history such as
Washington, D.C., and
Atlanta, Georgia. In each
citjr, the sightseeing and
special events include sites
of significance in black
heritage, and each special
event is arranged by the
Alpha Kappa Alpha
chapter in the tour city.
A junior at Durham
High School, Miss Adams
is the daughter of Mr. and '
Mrs. Johnny Adams of
403 N. Elizabeth Street.
The Domestic Travel
Tour Grant is awarded to
provide educational ,
enrichment to female
junior and senior high
school students .
throughout the nation.
Alpha Zeta Omega

she said, "equips an in
dividual to deal com
petently with one's en
vironment wherever one
finds ione's self." . '
Mrs. Lennon, address
ing the impact of the 1934
Desegregation Act, gave
some Interesting pointers
on the problem of
discipline in our public
schools, and addressed the
question of how educa
tional planners can make
curriculum more respon
sive to today's learners.
The year 1981 does not
And a situation of equal
access to education. She
cites however, that efforts
to motivate children will
increase. "Tests are. here
to stay," she commented.
Her final challenge to the
educational ' community
was to turn things around. '
