NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK In conjunc tion with National Wildlife Week, March 15-21, the N.C. Museum or Life and Science is .offering special activities and programs related to the week's theme of "We Care About Oceans". On March 13, Dr. Richard Searles will give a talk and demonstra tion, "Scuba Diving in the Ocean". "Mysteries of the Deep", a 25-minute Walt Disney film about the . animals of a rocky reef, will be shown at 3:30 p.m. on March 20. A slidetape show from the National Wildlife Federation, "We Care, About Oceans", will be presented at 3:30 p.m. on March 21 . In addi tion, the Museum will have an exhibit of North Carolina and exotic shells, marine life, and a touch tank. REAL AND SURREAL Durham Art Guild exhibition through March 31, at 120 Morris St., Durham. Virginia artist Betty Branch will show sculpture, Marcia Tyrrell will show painting, Louise Francke will show lithographs and Louellen Vernon-White will show etchings. Under the theme, "The Real and Surreal" the artists explore the reali ty of environments, the human figure, and the humor and sensuality to be found in fantasy and myth. FLOWERS OF THE CAROLINAS, a photographic interpretation of wildflowers in natural settings, will be on exhibit at the N.C. Museum of Life & Science, 433 Murray Avenue, Durham until March 14. BULL CITY CARPOOLING PROGRAM operations have been transferred to the Triangle J Council of Governments in the Research Triangle Park. AEROBIC DANCE CLASSES Carrboro Recrea tion and Parks Department, is now accepting registration for two Aerobic Dance Classes schedul ed to begin on Monday, March 16. These classes feature dance movements and routines done to music which provide body toning .as well as a cardiovascular workout. Aerobic Dance improves flexibility, balance, rhythm, coordina tion, and body control. Classes will meet on Monday and Wednesday nights for six weeks. NUTRITION SEMINAR March is National Nutrition Month and the Durham Nutrition Coun cil is sponsoring a seminar, "Keeping Nutrition Up and Prices Down" on Wednesday, March 18, 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., at the Durham County Library Auditorium on Roxboro Street. SOUTHERN ARTS FEDERATION (SAF) - is seeking performing arts groups to include in its 1982-83 touring program. Southeastern performing arts groups interested in touring in the region begin ning in September, 1982 should contact SAF im mediately ' for application information. The deadline for application is April 15; 98U ' Each year SAF assists a limited number of pro fessional touring theater, dance, opera and music groups with partial fee support to qualified spon soring organizations in the Southeast. Performing groups are chosen based on their application, funds - available and demand in a given art fornv A performing group must have a firrii commit ment from its board of directors, administrative staff and artists to the concept of touring for com munity audiences; a history of sound administrative and artistic direction and a regional or national reputation that demonstrates a high level of ac complishment. In addition, their artistic product, structured programs of educational value, and a demonstrated history of successful touring in their resident state will place the applicant in a favorable light. SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR VET CHILDREN Over $2.3 million is available this fiscal year for college scholarships for eligible children of veterans. The state-funded scholarships are awarded to children of certain disabled, deceas ed and POWMIA veterans. The scholarships are for four academic years and can be used at public and private schools in North Carolina, Students who think they may be eligible should apply during their senior year in high school and before May 1.
