The Blue Revue 1980 Queen, Miss Anita Locus, .
crowned the new 1981 Blue Revue Queen, Debutante
Toni Etheridge ion Saturday evening during the "Ball"
which was held 'in 'the Women's Gymnasium at Fayet
teville State University, Debutante J. Mclver won se
cond place. Debutante Darlene James won third place,.
Some thirteen other lovely debutantes were presented
and "welcomed to society" also. We congratulate each
one of them and wish for them success and happiness.
Many educators in Reading attended a conference
during the week.
The Kinneys enjoyed the company of Mrs. Farmer,
Mrs. Wilkes, Miss Ray, Mrs. Melvin, Mrs. Taylor and
the Johnsons recently.
Miss Sheila Vatdenia Sinclair of Fayetteville and Sgt.
Harold Hannibal bf Trenton, N.J., were married Satur
day afternoon in Lou's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness
Church. The Rev. Berline Kelly officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Retired Master Sgt. and
Mrs. Quincy Lee Sinclair. The bridegroom is the son of
Mrs". Frizella Hannibal of Trenton; N.J.
Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Eric Thompson were hosts for a
reception in the NCO Club at Pope Air Force Base.
The bride is employed as a shipping clerk with Fasco
Industries, Inc. She received her business degree in ad
ministration from Fayetteville Technical Institute. The
bridegroom is a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force stationed ;
at Pope Air Force Base.
Retired Master Sgt. and Mrs. Jonathan James an-!
nounce the engagement of. their daughter, Miss Doris '
Anette James, to Sheldon Murphy, son of Mrs. Louise ;
Murphy of Goldsboro and the late Sam Murphy. A May ;
23 wedding is planned at First Baptist Church oh Moore
Street.

School and is a student at North Carolina State Univer-.

Dr. C.R. Edwards was the guest speaker at the first
anniversary celebration of the pastor of Community;
Baptist Church on Murchison Road Sunday afternoon.,

The Rev. Norman L. Stroud of the Fayetteville
District, AME Zion Church, will receive an honorary
. Doctor of Divinity degree from the Union Training In
stitute of Durham at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Oak
Grove AME Zion Church.
Rev. Stroud is a member of Western Harnett High
School faculty and pastor of Oak Grove Church. A'
Harnett County native, he attended Livingstone College
in Salisbury and A&T State University in Greensboro.
He has been active in a statewide project encouraging ;
students in reading skills. j

AARP MEETING The monthly meeting of tftb
American Association of Retired Persons will be held;
Wednesday, March 18, at 2 p.m., in the Duke Street
Senior Citizens Center, 807 South Duke Street. All
members and friends are urged to attend. An interesting

. Up-To-Date Galeda Club
The Up-To-Date Galeda Club met at Union Baptist
Church Sunday morning, March 8. '
Devotion was led by Mrs. Doris Holland, A poem en
titled "Love'' was read by Miss Annie Dunnigan.
A new member, Mrs. Annis Jones, was welcomed to
the club by the Up-To-Date Galeda members.
Up-To-Date Galeda Club Anniversary will be held
Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m. The speaker will be Rev.
Kenneth Duff of Cameron Grove Church and guests his
congregation. ;-.
Following the meeting, a dinner was served in the

The Williams Family Circle held its regular monthly

The Gleaner Club met at 2410 Dallas Street recently
with Mr. and Mrs. Bracy as hosts and Mrs. Florence
Cooper assisting.
The meeting was presided over by the president, Mrs.
Lula M. Royal. After the business session, a delightful
dinner was served.
The members present were: Bliss Royal, Lula Mae
Royal, Annie Williams, Nellie Bynum, Vera Nicholson,
Hannah Hamm, Janie Swan, Mrs. Willa Coward,
Thelma M. Bullock, Florence Cooper, Hattie McClain,
Myrtle McNeil, Sarah McNeil, Willie Sherrille, James
Smarr, Madison McDonald, Frank Williams, Mrs.
Lenell Bracey and Iris Atkins.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 15 at the
home of Mrs. Lula Mae Royal.
White Rose Circle
The White Rose Circle Club met Sunday, March 8, at
the home of Mrs. Lillie Brown on Hearthside Street.
The devotion was led by Mrs. Chancey and Mrs..
Brown. The business session was presided over by the
president. Plans were made for the annual tea which will
be held April 5 at the home of Mrs. L.M. Harris, along -with
the April meeting.
The hostess served a delicious dinner to: Mesdames
Katie Chancey, Marie Clark, L.M. Harris, Kisha Hin
son, Maggie Thompson, Aletha McDougald, Marion

Quettes Plan Affair
The Sixth Annual Quette Affair of Fashion Flair will
be held at the Village Dinner Theatre, Saturday, March
28, at noon. This annual event includes a champagne
luncheon and fashions. Fashions are provided by Bur
they Clothiers, Bernard's Formal Wear, Di Vantique's,
Doris' Boutique and Carmen. Ques and Quettes from
the Beta Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.,
model casual wear, sports wear, street wear, after five
and formal wear, and Yusef and Friends will provide
the music. ,
Persons interested in purchasing tickets should call
Mrs. Beatrice Cherry at 596-6339 or Mrs. Anna Thorn
ton at 682-2224 or any member of the group.
Mrs. Cynthia H. Ferebee and Ms. Deseretta :V.
McAllister are co-chairmen and the committee includes
Mrs. Mary Abrams, Mrs. Icelean Payton, Mrs. Barbara
Porter, Mrs. Margaret Quiett, Mrs. Casandra Smith,
and Mrs. Linda Warren.
The event is the principle fund raising project launch
ed by the Quettes. Proceeds will be used to benefit local
civic projects. Each year the group sends children to the
4-H summer camp, giyes scholarships and a Thanksgiv
ing basket to a needy family, and adopts a family at
Christmas. In addition it has regularly made donations
to the Delinquency Diversion Unit of the Durham
Department of Social Services and Operation
Breakthrough's Emergency Energy Fund. .
HILLSIDE TOWN MEETING Durham Mayor
Harry Rodenhizer will be the featured guest on March
19 when the Student Council at Hillside High School
sponsors the first in a series of "Town Meetings". The
program will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Hillside
auditorium.
The meeting will take the "Meet the Press" format,
with the Mayor being questioned by a panel of profes
sional journalists from the Durham area.
At the conclusion of the journalists' questions, a
short audience response period will be held. Area
citizens are encouraged to attend.
