(NNPA) - Two
distinguished black
newspaper publishers will
be enshrined here in the
Black Press Archives and
Gallery at Howard
University by the National
Newspaper Publishers
, Association (NNPA) on
Friday, March 20. They
are Mrs. Daisy L. Bates,
publisher of the Arkansas
State Press, and William
Monroe Trotter, publisher
of the Guardian, Boston,
Massachusetts.
The ceremony will be
held in the National Press
Club Ballroom during a
Black Press Week lun
cheon. The guest speaker
will be Vice President
George Bush.
During the ceremony at
the National Press Club,
William O. Walker, editor
and publisher of the
Clevelannd Call and Post
and dean of the black
press, will present the en
shrinement plaques of the
honorees to Dr. Michael
R. Winston, director of
the Moorland-Spingarn
Research Center
: Howard where the
chives have been establish
ed. Joseph R. Slevin,
editor of the Washington
Band Report and presi
dent of the National Press
Club will preside. A recep
tion will follow at the Ar
chives. The enshrinement of
Mrs. Bates and Trotter
will bring to seventeen, the
number enshrined in the
Black Press Gallery since
its inception in 1977.
