The keynote speaker for the Pre-Charter reception and Charter Ceremony was Mrs. Norma Sermon, , -the South-Atlantic Regional Director of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Mrs.' Sermon was introduced by Mrs. Carolyn Thornton, a 'member of the Durham , Alumnae Chapter , Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., and director of Social Ser-; vices, Lincoln Mental Health Center. Mrs. Sermon was1 presented a key to the city by the mayor and each government official pledg ed support toward the sorority's Five-Point Pro-. gram. Omegas To Present Talent Hunt Sunday Twelve area high school j.studenls wMl be competing. in uic iuvoi iiiuaic uticui, hunt contest sponsored by Bda Phi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The program will be held on Sunday, April 12, -at 3:30 p.m., in the Hillside High School auditorium. Admission is free. Students to perform in the competition are: Ver non L. Bridges, a Durham High School junior, flute; James Ray Dempson, Jr., a senior at Southern High School, vocalist; Elijah J. Fisher, IV, a senior at Hillside High School, French horn; Ms. Cheryf L. Gant, a junior at Jor dan High School, vocal; Lucius Lester, a senior at Jordan, vocal; Ms. Doretha Yvette Phifer, a junior at Southern, vocal; Mark A. Shaw, a junior, and Reginald L. Shaw, a senior, vocalists from Hillside; Daryle Spellman, Hillside senior, drums; Ms. Christina Lynn Story, Hillside senior, piano; Ferdinando Taylor, Nor thern High School senior, saxophone; Ms. Shamia . Truitt, Hillside senior, vocal. The local talent hunt contest is one of many be ing conducted throughout the country by local chapters of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The first place winners of the local contests progress to com petition at the district level. For the Durham winner, the district com petition will be at the an nual meeting of the Sixth District (which comprises North and South Carolina) in Charlotte on May 9. District winners then compete on the na tional level. Beta Phi's contest is be ing coordinated by Charles Harris,, who is assisted by Evester Bailey, Clarence Ellis, Floyd Ferebee, Earl Hobbs, Carl Hodges, Carey Hughley and Joseph Yongue.
